How does the FR / Cupra drive in the snow?

I´ve driven mine in -26c without any problems. The traction is fine as long as you have proper tyres. I use Nokian Hakkapelitta 7 with studs, and its almost as driving on a rainy road in the summer, use your brain and it work just fine If you are gently on the throttle and not to enthusiastic entering curves, you will survive

yesterday i drove off from my home its fine soon i reached corner my car skidded.then i realized it has no grip i went to a car park got stuck there.i have leon cupra before /leon fr never have anything like that

I mean literally a dusting of the white stuff causes *everyone* to drive like a moron, and the severe cold seems to cause all of our controls to be binary. Full Throttle, Full Brakes or Full Steering lock.

How true is that. The smallest dusting and majority of road users become "silly" behind the wheel. I remember my 2 winters up in Scotland, so many of my fellow countrymen smashed up so many rental cars coz they had no clue how to drive in that type of weather.

Well, what i meant with the temp. was of course that the car didn´t have any problems with it. Yes, i live in Stockholm so mostly we have like your weather. Moist, pretty cold, sno, rain.. About -4 here today and a lot of snow.. They drive like i don´t know what here too, its like the winter comes as a surprise every year

My point is: If ypu have proper wheels/tyres fitted and take it easy, you´re ok.. The handling on snow/ice is really good for beeing such a small car in my opinion. The ESP/Traction/Whatever works really good, has saved me a couple of times..

My cupras been great this year and last year got stuck once in my drive but its on a very steep slope. im using conti sport contact summer tyres the now and getting on fine. Must say tho the bridgestones i had on it last year stopped me quicker in the snow. had a nasty moment when some tubes thought it'd be a good idea to roll a snowman down the hill onto the dual carridgeway esp helpped me get out the way safely lol

Just bought a new 2010 Ibiza 2.0 TDi FR and thinking of fitting winter tyres. Given that skinny tyres are supposed to work best in snow I was thinking of fitting 185/60 R15 tyres from Marangoni (less than 60 quid each) on steel rims. The alloys on the car currently are 215/40 R17 but I notice that lower spec models fit 185/60 R15's as standard. The diameters match - is it possible / wise to fit these smaller rims to the FR? Could there be fouling problems with brakes etc?

I've got 15" BBS alloys on my Sport and they fit over the front brakes with about 5mm to spare.
If you've got the Sport brakes then i don't think they'd fit, but over the standard 288mm(?) brakes 15's should be fine.

I dont want to find out how the car handles in the snow and ice. Which is why it is parked up in my garage safe and sound from the morons who can not drive with half and inch of snow around them!

Out comes my MkII Phase I 1.2 8v Clio! And that is fun handles great in the snow!

Thanks very much - it does indeed have the same, standard (288mm) brakes as fitted on the 1.6 TDi sport. So it sounds like this is a good option.

My Cupra is absolutely useless in the snow. Just have the standard tyres on which are no good for snow. Also, you have to turn off the ESP when pulling away otherwise it just grinds you to a halt! It definitely needs a set of winter tyres for the snow.

I have no chance to prove it to have the car, but I guess the best for snow is a 4WD. I do not get my cupra in the snow, really.

Not very safe, unless you want to do some drifting I mean the difference between front and rear grip levels will probably be too noticeable and car starts to oversteer because there is more grip in front tyres than in rear. Common rule in winter tyres is to have tyres with more grip (usually means "less worn") in rear (I guess understeer is considered more safe than oversteer), but of course the best practice is to have all tyres the same age and equally worn (where switching front tyres to rear on next winter will help).

Like everyone that has a Cupra/boc it is pretty useless in the snow. Mainly front wheels stuck in some rut or other slight incline.
This is why I thought of just replacing the front wheels and Tyres. Least I could get out of my drive/station parking space at least u could get moving.
Don't mind drifting, av had a couple of 14a's ;-)

1st snow related damaged bocanegra?

im so upset tonight, bout an hour ago i hit a very large kerb in my boc and i wasnt dicking about or going fast1 understeer straight into the kerb, smashed my n/s/f bumper section and got my n/s/f wheel. first ever snow related incident for me, shame it happened to be in the nicest car i have ever had PLEASE EVERYONE BE CAREFUL IN THE SNOW.
