How loud should the alarm be?

My alarm went off for the first time the other night. To be honest it was a sorry excuse for an alarm. You can hear the horn beeping but it was so quiet it sounded almost distant. When I press the horn in the car it is normal loud volume. Is there a way to adjust the volume of the alarm so it may be a deterrent?

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but how do you test the alarm? I have a Toledo SE, and it has a red LED on the drivers door that flashes when the car is locked, but I can't lock it with the door slightly open and if I leave the window open it seems to disable the interior sensors.

If I can test it then I can let you know how loud it is ;)

Get someone to sit in it, then lock it

As already said......
to test it lock yourself in the car and open the door.

Good question though about the loudness of the alarm.
My horn is alot louder than the alarm

The alarm horn is separate and mounted under the scuttle next to the ECU. Not a lot of point in using the warning horns that are mounted in the bumper with easily cut wiring.

That makes sense muttley, never thought of that...but then never really thought about the location of the horn
Still a bit puzzled about how to increase the volume of the alarm horn though ?? Not sure if it is possible that it is altered / adjusted when connected to a computer / diagnostics ??

There is a setting for the alarm horn but it's country-specific, and affects volume and duration of the alarm horn. Not sure how many options there are for it.

The Ross-Tech wiki says that the alarm country settings affect volume and duration, but no more detail than that.

Well I tried locking the car with me in it, and even waving my arms about didnt set the alarm off, so I tried opening the doors but they were deadlocked. I disabled the deadlock and then opened the door with the alarm set but it still didn't sound. What could be wrong with it? The red light flashes on the drivers door.

Give it a minute to arm, it doesn't turn on straight away as far as I know.

How did you disable the deadlock? If you pressed the button by the drivers door then you would have been turning the interior sensors off as well.

I disarmed the deadlocks by pressing the 'lock' button on the remote again after locking the car. Even if it did disable the interior sensors, I opened the drivers door completely and the alarm didn't sound (indicators weren't going either).

I might give it a bit longer to arm next time, though I did give it 10 secs or so.

I used to be able to set off my Astra alarm easily if I wanted to, but never heard the Tolly alarm in the 6 months I've owned her.
