How many miles per tank for a petrol leon

Just done a quick calc and the Leon fuel tank is 55 litres (approx 12 gallons).

To do 500 miles out of a tank you would need to average 41.67 mpg.

Not saying its completely impossible but I think certainly in the U.K you could never achieve that in a Cupra. Not sure what the optimal speed is for fuel consumption on the Cupra but mine seems to be about 50/55.

I've had about 34 on a run (of about 120 miles mainly motorway) but that's the most ever. You can never cruise for long enough at a certain speed to get much more than that.

Yeah and the calculation doesnt take into account the time it takes to get to 55-60 crusing speed.... I reckon to get to 55-60 and maintain 41mpg in a Cupra would take maybe 6 hours, not 6 seconds......

Also in the U.K I don't think you could maintain a steady speed for long enough. Even in the early hours of the morning there is still too much traffic on the motorways to maintain that sort of speed constantly.

I could see you being able to do it for 50 miles or so if lucky, but not 500. (not that there is even a motorway or other road that long anyway).

It's even harder trying to maintain a speed of say 70-75 on a motorway what with all those Cupra drivers trying to get above 30mpg by cruising along at 50-55

I'm on my first tank (Shell standard unleaded) with my new FR TFSI done 130 miles and according to the trip computer I have another 250 miles left in the tank so that's 380 miles which isn't bad for its first tank. I haven't been thrashing it but I'm not granny driving either.

Upto know l have not seen any posts where anyone has noticed major differences.
I have had 400 from a tank, driving like a grannie, couldnt have done another mile.
Normal - 280 to 300 normal hardish driving.

I only drove like that once to see what the car could do. I normally average 23-28mpg depending how much i feel like a touring car driver!!

When I test drove the Cupra, the salesman said never use supermarket petrol full stop and on a Cupra always use Super.

6 weeks later the day before I collected the car I asked "Where's the nearest petrol station to the garage, and he goes Asda" Then he denied telling me that the car needed to be run on super.

I have an e-mail from SEAT saying that they recommend 98 RON or above on both the FR and Cupra, but 95 RON can be used with a possible performance and/or economy loss.

Others people say it makes no difference and many magazine articles have proved this.

I personally pay the extra few quid a tank where possible and put V-Power in it.

I've also read that the ECU adjusts the car to the type of fuel you use, but it takes 3 or 4 tanks to do this.

Incidentially the fuel filler cap on mine says 95 RON or above.

For anyone on this thread who may be interested

I am currently conducting an experiment between Super Unleaded and normal unleaded.

I own a Mk11 Leon TFSI FR DSG which I ran on Super Unleaded from new (Oct 07). With approximately 5000 miles on the clock the onboard computer indicated I was averaging 29.1mpg. On 3 Feb 08 I started using normal unleaded fuel and I have posted the results to date at the thread entitled "DSG TFSi Mpg"

Please note that I am not a "Boy Racer" (Maybe 30 years ago ) but I do not think that I am a "granny driver" either .

In respect of this thread; I can't remember exactly how much the Mk11 Leon tank is supposed to hold but my latest results were 296.7 miles on 47.71ltrs of normal unleaded (an average of 28.27mpg). Younger brains out there I am sure can work out what I should have got on a full tank .

I have a 1.6 leon and usually get about 300 miles before the dreaded bong.
I always fill up with BP ultimate, smoother acceleration and better fuel consumption,on normal stuff only about 280 miles to the dreaded bong

You must be wringing its neck all the time, or do lots of short runs! Mine has 1700 miles on the clock and I aint no granny driver and out of a full tank I have just got 480. That included a decent few miles thrashing it showing my mate what is goes like.

Cant fault the FR TDi for performance or economy!

lol.... I'm a company car driver.... dont pay for fuel.... what can I say, I get every last ounce of performance from teh engine

Oh, and yeah, I know there is a 4th, 5th and 6th gear... Just I dont think Seat put a throttle on mine, It seems to have only 2 settings... on and off lol.

Oh, and the car has 76, 000 miles on the clock, and has just had a new engine, turbo, DPF filter, Flywheel and clutch... all under warranty expect the clutch plate hehe....

The car has had problems from about 20k miles.. All documented in its early life on here (search for my posts "ewizzy")

Ive just ordered KW coilovers from Jabba sport as the shocks and springs were feeling a little tired and sloppy.

Apparently, I have the highest mileage FR TDI in the country according to Seat UK!!

Reason I had a new engine was Piston number 4 had a hole and cracked down the middle. Possible casues, ****ed turbo chucked too much oil in the cylinder and as we all know, oil doesnt compress very well lol..

I'm not moaning. The Cupra is probably the most fuel efficient in the hot hatch class (petrol cars only).

Focus ST/ Megane R27 / Astra VXR low 20's mpg (average)
Civic Type R / Audi S3 mid 20's mpg
Golf Gti / SEAT FR+Cupra high 20's/low 30's mpg

I am curious to understand the average mileage people get with the petrol Leon, I have seen some comments on the diesel but nothing on petrol,

I have a 1.6 Petrol and we seem to be getting below 300 miles to a tank – this seems very low to me, and is costing a fortune in petrol . The car is used for a mixture or town and motorway driving. It has 12K on the clock and is about 13 months old.

I am just trying to get some info before going back to the dealer, who is going to argue there is nothing wrong with the car.

Ps – it does appear to be a Friday car as it has already been back to the dealer six times in 12 months. (Drop links replaced, problems with the air bag and engine management system)

Also to be honest not confident the dealer knows what they are doing, but they are the only one in the local area.

i have a 1.6 stylance and last tank i got 640km's from brimming it to fumes. i dont dog it but there was a good mix between town and motorway driving. i have used injector cleaner recently though and its made a slight difference i've found. it can go below 500km around town easily though. my car has about 34000km on it so slightly higher than yours.
