Been looking at 2.0 16v gti / cupra sports, a couple have 90k miles. How many miles would a well maintained abf knock out before snuffing it or requiring some serious work?
Milage has scuppered my chances of owning 'the car' I've wanted - but i'm interested to know how many miles could you expect?
120k plus?
Cheers

Ollie

well my 8v has about 120k now , and when i got it the car was in poor nick , but the engine is good . im sure its been caned before i got it , but still goin well now ( apart from lack of reverse gear lol )

definately a 16v.
i might need to travel another 400 to get this one.

ollie, heads up - my 8v might be for sale start of 2008. i'll let you know.

120k is nothing for a well maintained 16v, just expect the usual kind of parts needed for a car of this age like brakes, clutch, cambelt and head gasket. Thats what you should need at the most really

I think your aim for a 65k mileage car that's a minimum of 9yrs old was optimistic.

I'd sooner trust an honest 100k car. engines will go on & on, and when they don't - they're cheap to replace - and take no time to do.

Yeah, its more my parents wouldnt lend me the cash to buy one with high miles while I sold mine (Im a poor student ).
Am going to look at the blue one with cash in my pocket :) said he'd give me a chance to come view on sat. For 1k cant go wrong really can I?
Said that it sounds a bit cam/ tappets but thats what abf's are like from what i've seen and been told.
Even better - Insurance is cheap fully comp - I love no claims bonus :D
