How much service n cambelt?!

Rung willoughby seat today to see how much the 60k service and cambelt n waterpump would cost me.. £650, Am i being a scrooge or is that a lot?

Seat quoted me £510+vat for the cambelt service but that didnt include the water pump.

If you get chance replace the water pump with a metal impellor version not a OEM plastic impellor version.
When my was changed at 60k miles, 6 years old the plastic impellor basically crumbled in my hands.

i forgot to mention that she said the labour rates were going up at the new year so it must be that!
I rung back for just the service and thats £200,so i'll just get that done and go else where for the cambelt n waterpump..
crazy money...

Its a stupid amount of money but, it seems right for the stealers, They quoted me over £400 for the just the cambelt to be done, Im only on 41000 miles but I know the cambelt will soon be approaching.

Im sure you can get it cheaper else where, I know Ill be looking around when it comes to it.

cardiff seat are quoting £200 for cambelt and water pump, only found out after westec quoted me and completed the above and a major service to the tune of £550, my arse still hurts lol

That's complete bollo*ks!!!

I paid £350 for my cambelt/water pump and to fix the dodgy fuse on top of the battery! So another £300 for a service is a joke!

That was at Portsmouth SEAT.

I dont get this, how can SEAT be quoting us all different prices then?

Another dealership told me the cambelt was £470 as my Ibiza used the same set up as the Leon turbo. Sounds to me they just spout any old numbers & hope you will be mug enough to do it.

Im on 57k at mo, and going to get a full service done on 60k - probably dont really need a full service but recently brought the car -

Service (Parts approx £90)
Oil (fully syn)
Oil filter
Fuel Filter
Plugs Denso IK22
Pollen Filter
Blades(Front & Rear)
Engine flush
Most service parts im getting from euro parts - apart from plugs -

Timing Kit (approx £170)
- OEM timing belt made by Continental
- OE tensioner Roller made by Ruville in Germany
- OEM tensioner assembly made by Ruville in Germany
- OE Idler roller (comes on the tensioner assembly)
- Graf water pump with metal impeller
- Accesory drive belt made by Continental
Kits is available from company in the states -

Doing the service myself - but dont fancy doing the latter -

Just done the cambelt and water pump on mine, admittedly early at 45k but its 5 years old, mines a Cupra 1.8t. The part numbers are genuine VW/Seat parts.
Cost me £75 and a morning to do mine.
(all VW part numbers + retail prices, (VW part numbers due to working in a VW dealership), part numbers for belt, tensioner + water pump are same as SEAT as checked before fitting mine)

Cambelt kit (cambelt, tensioner and idler roller) 06A 198 119B @ £75.00 Exc vat
Water Pump metal blades (exchange) 06A 121 012X @ £25.80 Exc vat

So its £100.80 exc vat just short of £120 for parts. (or £75 if u get trade prices at VW)
Then add 2 hours or so labour totalling around £150 (dealer prices)
Making a grand total of £270 ish at dealer prices with genuine parts.

Dug up this thread from a few weeks back, saves me starting a new one.

Just had a couple of quotes on a cambelt change from some dealers, just wondered what people thoughts where on it

Vindis VW - Bedford - £349.00 inc vAT
Marshalls of Cambridge - £350.00 inc VAT
SEAT Letchworth Autoway - £219.00 inc VAT
Stoneacre - Peterborough - £216.00 inc VAT.

Is it worth me sourcing the parts myself (i can get a small discount through a friend at VW) and supplying the dealer with them to save on cash, or should i stop being a tight a$$ and just pay up?

Just get the metal water pump yourself then let the garage get the other bits (and make some of their money up that way) and get them to do it... balance these costs against the cost of the engine going Piingggggg, snap, crash etc

I've had a service on it already today (50,000) but they recommend getting the cambelt done in the next few weeks.

didn't think about the water pump, maybe i'll just get that then and leave them to get the other bits

Make sure you get cambelt, roller, and waterpump with metal impellor. A lot of dealers quote prices without the roller which whist your at it may aswell be changed!
