Would of cost me around £3600 fully comp (10 monthly) with Admiral lol but then again I added it to my policy 3 months before the end and paid an extra £400-500 or something. It is group 17 though :( Admiral are very good for young drivers, chuck your Mum and Dad on there or Mum and Auntie or something, that saved me ~£700 and the cheapest place to keep a car (according to Admiral) is on the driveway. Up the excess and you'll see some decent drops.

Its only like £1400 on my 1.4 so it will be cheaper to do a conversion I reckon I could do it for £500 ish

don't think you could do a conversion for 500ish. second hand 1.8 are pretty dear for a good one and if you want one from a cupra which aqx or ayp codes then there going to harder to come by and expensive and i think 1.4's are have cable operated clutches and fly by wire throttle but i could be wrong, you'd also need to look at braking ie bigger whether your cars fitted with discs on rear as standard or not ?

My plan was to buy a cupra and swap it all over and sell the parts I don't need

you must also consider the insurance of a car with an engine conversion and a car thats ment to be, (that how they see it) unless ur not gonna declare then ull get bent over im affraid!

i am thinking about doing something very similar, for a cupra i cant get it cheaper than £2600 a year thats 3yrs no claim, 0 point etc and 23yo, pretty steep in my opinion i can afford it but i am going travelling at the end of the year so id rather have a life and a decent car, but i can insure a 1.6 sport for around £1100, so unless i can lodge at my gf's (bring the cupra to about £1600) ill be gettin a 1.6 till im 25 then upgrading to a cupra and just spend a day at my unit swapping all my mods over etc,

its ok people sayin just buy a cupra n insure it whatever the cost, but then ull have a cupra sat outside with no money to mod it, new coilpacks, fuel etc

if ur 18 and want a cupra my best advice is get the 1.4 mod it, learn your style and then build yourself up to it!

its why the rest of us suffer high insurance

why not wait till insurance goes down then find a cupra, while your waiting plan out what your going to do it and gather knowledge and parts :D

You should get a quote from admiral... I just did becuase i was wondering how long i was going to have to wait for a cupra and was REALLY surprised and happy!!

I will be 18 at end of June and got a quote for Cupra for £1951 fully comp (£1000 excess :/ but doesn't go up much with £500 excess) 0 NCB, this was because i added both my parents as named drivers :D great stuff! I will be getting one at the end of June now hopefully!
