A couple of times recently on starting the vehicle, I have noticed that the engine starts straight away ie in hybrid mode. Despite being in hybrid mode, in situations when the engine would normally swtich off and go to battery for a short period (traffic lights etc), I have noticed that the engine remains idling.

Does anyone know why the vehicle would do this? My initial thought was that it may be ancillary services such as a/c, but it wasn't blasting away. In fact, I think the temperature it was set at was higher than ambient temperature, so I don't think the a/c compressor would have been working away to cool the air.

After about ten minutes driving (urban), I was able to select e-mode.

Any ideas?

I was told by the dealer that the engine needs to warm up before it will allow full hybrid mode. Takes around five minutes of driving, depending on outside conditions.
I’m not sure why the car should start in hybrid mode if there is plenty of electric range available. Mine does this occasionally. I have found that if I don’t press on the brake pedal when first pressing the start button, it always starts in electric mode.

Ooh, now you have me interested??
I can’t get mine to start in hybrid mode…..so I have the shortcut set on the \\\ screen. I then fire the engine on with a dab of the accelerator down the road and the petrol engine will drive the car for 3 or 4 minutes while it warms up. ( this is unavoidable Caloomba?)
Once it does I am in perfect control of the power via battery or petrol and to be fair am impressed with the smooth transition and how easily it is to control with the throttle….
so can it be defaulted to always start from hybrid mode?
cheers

No, it’s designed by Cupra to start in Electric mode, it may be possible by OBD11 (not heard of it though) but try the tip in post #2?

Are you leaving it in S Gearbox?

Interesting. Before you start it up, can you force it back to electric to avoid it starting the engine?
What's your battery level when this happens? A/C and the other peripherals are perfectly functional in Electric only - one of the reasons I went with this car instead of other brands.

If you know you have to engage the petrol engine, you can also put it in Neutral and press the gas to the 2nd stage.
I always do it this way when getting in the car, so I'm sure it doesn't go from cold start to immediate load.
