Hybrid Turbo help

Hi guys,

After some help and advice.

Unfortunately the time has come where the ibiza cupra tdi has let go. The turbo has been making some nasty whistling and screaching noises and the clutch finally let go last month. The clutch was slipping for a while until it finally the clutch pedal went to the floor and didn't come back up again lol. Upon closer inspection I have noticed oil leaking from the bottom of the gearbox, so I suspect this is the master cylinder within the gearbox? Also I looked into the turbo slightly to find quite alot of oil in the boost pipes. So looks like at least a new clutch/flywheel, turbo rebuild and master cylinder for gearbox is required.

After taking some time to think about what to do with the car, I have decided I would like to keep the car and go down the route of hybrid turbo and aftermarket clutch/flywheel.

Does anyone have any recommended and well known turbo specialists in the Leeds area that you advise I take it to? Rather than just having the turbo rebuilt I would like to have internals and worked to increase power further more. Also any recommendations on a decent heavy duty clutch/flywheel? I notice Awesome now do there own aftermarket clucth/flywheel. Anyone had any experience with these and know what sort of power they are capable of running comfortably in order to obtain reliability?

One downside is the car has done around 135,000 miles now so not sure if going down the hybrid route is such a wise idea :-/ lol

Any advice and help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

What is the gearbox code? Does it share clutch components with eariler tdi engines. If it does then you might be able to put in a solid ahu flywheel with a helix clutch (flywheel £40, clutch £bit more)

Turbo dynamics were very helpful to me even though it was not finanically advantageous to them. There work also looks very convincing. I have not however had first hand experience with them on a business level. Turbo technics are strongly recommended by just about everyone. There turbo is rated at 220 bhp average. Darkside developements have got some monster turbos, haven't had any dealings with them yet. Their phone manner was very good though.

your going to spend alot more than 40 quid on a flywheel sorry.

I used a sachs fly/ uprated clutch. not cheap. Not cheap for a reason tho.

turbo dynamics are good. I used them, I also hear good things with cr too.

What I would say is, I'd buy a new hybrid. Not a old unit modified.

This man speaks sense. I bought a brand new md376 and used the awesome clutch/smf, car goes well.

The asv has a 5 speed box, the 6 speed boxes as fitted to the diesel cupra have a larger diameter contact area on their DMF and I believe a slightly different fitting on the crank.

Just as well I said IF then wasn't it.:D The cupra tdi has a 240 mm diameter clutch with 23 teeth compared to the 228 mm of the early models. Would be interesting though to know if out there somewhere there was a model of car with a solid flywheel that had the physical properties to fit your car. Then again your probably thinking, hhhmmmm endless hours of pounding the internet and finding nothing or finding something and then having to go and pick it up or picking up the phone and ordering one inside two minutes from the comfort of your own home. I'm a glutton for punishment, I'd pound the internet.

If it was that simple it would have been done. Using google can only help so much. Finding a solid flywheel from a scrapped car is asking for trouble.

1000's of models spanning decades and there's not one that would be a match? Doesn't give us a lot of hope then for life on mars or theory of evolution then. ;)

Life on mars or evolution has nothing to do with it. Your not talking about decades worth of cars. Anything that would be suitable would be from the last decade IMO. I can't see many hillman imps, or morris minors having a flywheel that can live with 300lb/ft +

Then you;ve got the fact that almost every manufacturer does things slightly diferently, and most of the modern VAG cars use DM flywheels now, so you'd have to go to different manufacturers. Then you can easily get one the right diamete, but you'll need the centre custom machined to suit the crank, while assuming you;ve got the right thickness in the right places.

You've got about as much chance of finding one, as you have of finding life on mars.

And some of us have already looked, years upon years ago when parts weren;t so readily available for them
