hybrid turbos

hi Gavin NI

I have the same turbo as you mate just away to fit this weekend

What figures did you get after you have had it mapped im was looking for 220bhp 350lbft

My fabias spec as below mate

CR GT1756 HYBRID
PD150 INLET MANIFOLD WITH JABA EGR DELETE
ECS SM FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH
FORGE FRONT MOUNT INTERCOOLER HARD PIPES ALL ROUND
FORGE CATCH TANK
MAGNEX DE-CAT FULL S/S

:p

Majesty78...

What is the problem with the 1756?? I've just had my 1749vb converted to this spec and must say the car even with a generic map for now goes very well. I have noticed on my boost gauge that spike has dropped from 30psi to 24 psi and hold has went down from 25-26psi to 23-24psi.
As far as I aware the stage 2 TD is a 2275 spec comp wheel and the stage 1 is similar to the CR Turbos spec.

Also may I add that TD wanted £700 to do my turbo and would only give me a 12 month warranty if I used a tuner that I really really don't trust!!! CR charged me £450 all in inc a full 12 month warranty.

Also what should I get logged on vag-com the next time i've a laptop in the car??

I've only had the turbo in for 8 days and haven't had time to get it mapped as yet.

Good to see some others have the same turbo!!

I have been chatting to someone over on tdiclub with the same turbo and they also have no problems. Advise being use a boost valve to 'clip' the boost spike and keep the turbo happy. I am using a boost valve on my standard 1749v to good effect: I get no boost overshoot what so ever.

A little. I notice more torqure from 2000rpm and more power from 3000rpm onwards but this turbo is giving me the same issues as the 1749vb. In 4&5th gear boost spike well past 30psi and seems to hold there causing the car to go into limp mode. This is only a recent thing and I can't diagnose what the fault is??

BTW it does this with both the 1749 & 1756

A boost valve is just a band aid which wont help when you keep up injection quantity.
The boost value does nothing else than that what would happen when duty cycle is up to 100percent. And this 100percent duty cycle can not be exceeded with a boost valve.

@ Gavin, this is because your boost exceedes the map sensor readings because of bad software.

3bar map sensor fitted and the map has been on the car for 12 months now and this over boosting issue in 4&5th gear only started 6 weeks ago...How is this then software related??

BTW sometimes it's fine and will not over boost.

No it was fitted first along with the FMIC before it was mapped.

Im I totally wrong in thinking that a TD MD376 is a hybid of a standard Garret 1749Vb.
Undergone the process of a compressor wheel from a Garret 2256, Makinging it a 1756.
Maintained in the standard 1749vb housing.

While a VNT 17/22 offered by tdiparts is a hybrid of a Garret 1749Vb exsaust turbine and housing and a compressor and housing of a 2256 making it a 1756 again but with a Vnt 2256 compressor housing rather than just a Milled out one like the TD MD376.

Or am I totally wrong.

Is there anyone out there that makes an off the shelf manifold for the pd150 engines to accompany a VNT 2256. or is it litterally a Do it yourself job.

Not with stock nozzles.

You could bolt up a gt3571klv to the engine, it wouldnt help.

Its the fueling that is missing to make more than 210-215bhp with stock nozzles of ARL/ASZ engine.

You never get the needed fueling for fairy tale 230, 240 or even 250hp through stock nozzles.

He specifically says he is using stock injectors... he doesn't mention anything about nozzles. If he had uprated nozzles, wouldn't he of mentioned that in the spec list?

reading what alex(majesty) posted it makes sense (well in my head it does)

too bigger compressor wheel and the vnt even when fully open it will overboost as the flow cannot escape fast enough... and even if it could the comp wheel will keep the rpm up and it will again lead to overboost.
as alex suggested adjusting the fueling is the only option at the higher revs. hence why he keeps saying find a decent tuner!!

i know thats not the correct technical term but watching how a vnt works on youtube it kinda makes sense. there are a few people now with this same problem.
