Can anyone tell me if the tappets inn the 1.0 engine are hydraulic? Started the arosa a few days ago after sitting idle for a while and it sounded horrible!

Thanks for the reply, I started it again today and let it run upto temperature - seemed ok after that, I'll see how it is when started from cold again. An oil change would probably help, too as it's mostly sat unused for the last 2 years

Hydraulic tappets tend to lose pressure either in cold weather, or after periods where the car hasn't been started for a while. I had this when i first had the leon, thort it was camshaft play, but as soon as the car is up to temperature the pressure in the fluid is corrected and the tappets adjusted!

if you are doing an oil change may be worth running an oil flush through it first get it all cleaned out
