Afternoon on this very rainy Christmas eve :)

Just driving home from my last day at work till the new year and my Emission control system light just popped up on my dash... Bugger!

I dont have any misfiring although I dont think I have experienced one... Possibly the worse time to get a problem when all garages are shut lol

Any ideas or help would be great :) I will say I am no mechanic lol

I have a Leon FR TFSI 57 plate if that helps...

Cheers

Simon

Thanks Dave for your reply, I expected this answer lol

Would it be worth getting my own scanner for the car to check these sorts of things out myself?

They are only hand held things cannot be much surely lol My famous last words before I go bankrupt...

The light only says its an exhaust problem how bad could that be if its not misfiring?

Cheers

Kwik fit have diagnostic machines they scanned mine this time last year

Cheers for your reply Marty, I'm guessing I will have to get it to a garage but how far can I travel on this light? I live in a town where we only have a Boots and Wilkinson's, looking at about 10 miles maybe....

Is your car standard or tuned?

What happened when the light popped up?

I doult it be anything serious if you can still drive it and not experience any issues whilst driving or mis-fires...

The light may just vanish by itself (they do that sometimes)

No harm in getting a scanner though but most of the scanners will only read and not erase codes but others can correct me if I am wrong :s

Is it emmisions light thats on? Could be lambda sensor. Had this last year on my astra. Car drove fine but light on. I would chance it only if you have full breakdown cover to get you back home should it break down. Other option if u have aa cover ring them as they have diagnostic equipment

I've only had the car about 2 months, It is indeed standard...

Well nothign happened really I just noticed it like my water for my jets was out... No problems no jumping... drove another 2 miles home and turned it off and on again everything seemed fine...

Does anyone have a scanner that they know works with my model, or is it the same for every car sort of thing?

Cheers

I have full breakdown cover with Green flag onward travel and all that caboodle lol

Just done it, be here within the hour :)

I shall keep you updated

Thanks for all your help

Btw, I brought a cheap USB Diagnostic cable called VAG-COM or now known as VCDS...

There is a giant thread about the cable and software...have a quick search when you get the chance

It's quite cheap and it comes with the software to install on a laptop or even netbook (netbook in my case)

The amount of scans, adaptions, service reset etc etc...pays for itself (30quid max?)

Hope this helps! Like I said I doult it's anything serious! :)

Probably the usual EVAP failure fault that most Leons seem to do (P0441). If it is, don't worry about it, my lights been on for months now and I can't seem to fix it (like everyone else that has this error)

As above, if you do want a scanner for the future, I bought one from DHGate for $20 and it works perfectly.

Well I just had the most miserable and un-christmassy man from green flag lol

Didn't really tell me much but all I saw on his reader was P0441 Evaporative Emission system, Incorrect Purge Flow lol

Is that some form of water getting into the exhaust with all this flooding?

Hopefully JP6 the fact I still have 4 months warranty on my car they may be able to fix it so I can let you know the solution...

He cleared the light and said if it comes back go to a garage...

Yep thought it would be the EVAP error, search for 'P0441' on here and you'll find loads of threads, hopefully you can find a solution for it! Either way, it's nothing major and won't affect the car at all, at the most some people suffer a very slightly lower MPG.

The EVAP system recycles petrol fumes I believe, using the charcoal cannister you see under the bonnet near the washer fluid bottle. Some people say that error can appear if you brim your tank when you fill up as liquid fuel travels through the vapour lines. When mine first did it the light kept cleaning itself and then coming back a few weeks later, now it's permanently on.

Did he clear it on his reader for you? If so it may be a one off and never come back.

Yeah he just looked and reset it so all is well so far, went for a 10 mile spin and it's still off...

See what happens :)
