hello mate i two own a fresca they not to bad i guess lol the 1.4 is a bit sluggish but gets you about as for tuning the response you will get of most people is save up for a gti lol. but if you lower it get a decent set of wheels and a good set of tyres it will handle well as for engine mods, you could get a four branch manifold, air filter, exhaust, fast road/race cam and pulley. but first i would go for lowering it on a decent set of springs and uprated shocks or even collies and a decent set of tyres and wheels. hope this helps mate.

As already said, save and buy a GTi!

Enjoy the car by all means change the wheels/suspension/brakes. Your not gonna get much if anything out the engine. Exhaust will make it sound nice (+2bhp), induction kit might make it sound noise (0bhp gain).

Exhaust manifold on POTN - I can't find it
CAMS - Don't bother lol.

So in short if you want a quicker car buy one with a bigger engine. Don't waste your money on a 1.4! It's cheaper to buy a 2l 8v gti and insure it then buy a 1.4 and get it anywhere near as quick. TRUST US ALL WHO TELL YOU!

Cant find the exhaust manifold on POTN either.

Just buy a 2l 8v gti as has already been said. Although the 1.4's can be fun to drive and you can throw them about if youi get them handling well.

Tbph I have never had that sort of problem. It has always felt planted. It feels even better now though since I fitted my spacers on the rear.

Might have been the fact i was runnin 13inch steelies too.

Once i got the hang of it though, with a bit of handbrake you could flick the back end out and let the front claw it back. Can't do that in the 2.0litres as the rear disks don't lock up the same.
