Ibiza Cupra " ORR" Astra GSi

the old astra 2.0 T doesn't convince me, there aren't many around which sorta says to me they are problematic, I'm guessing it's what they now use in the astra VXR ?

There's loads of Astra GSI's about. The VXR uses the same engine basically with a few tweeks and a different turbo.

Fairly easy to get 300bhp out of the astra

I think the Astras are a bit chavvy also and from a performance point of view whilst big power numbers are fairly easy to come by you'll be sh***ing your pants at every roundabout fighting the torque steer. And getting more power from the 2.0T will only make that worse!

The Ibizas (Cupra/FR/any!) are a much better choice in my opinion. They look better, have marginally nicer interiors compared to the Astras but actually handle really well straight out of the box. A few simple mods to handling and power and you'll have a seriously fun little car that you'll not bore of for a long time. Long after you'd have sold the Astra after nearly crashing on a roundabout. Again.

I suspect the free flat cap dig was referring to Astra drivers in general and not just the GSi owners?
As I completely agree :bleh:

The z20let or z20leh is a cracking engine and as well as the Ibiza I own a z20let corsa c, you may call me a chav but I don't care I love the corsa and that's my toy/track car, also like any car when u raise the power you will get torque steer, but a simple diff will correct that, the gsi is a massivly capable car so don't underestimate it at all, a simple remap will yeald an extra 30hp taking it to 234bhp, my corsa is stage 3.5 and runs 301bhp which costs far less to get to than any cupra or fr,

A rear arb on the astra brings them alive.

I get torque steer on a standard ibiza, so that's no argument either.

My ibiza torque steers like mad, a mate has just had a astra with a 300bhp VXR engine in it, its absolutely mental, it cost him just over 5k, makes my car looks slow, doesnt handle or brake very well but thats being sorted as i type this, mine is not very good in the bends either tho.

A petrol cupra might be the way to go, if you you drive morally then they aint bad on fuel, people are too heavy footed and then complain about comsumption.

@lee_fr200 - I wasn't calling you (or any other GSi owner) a chav directly, merely stating that in my opinion the Astra looks more chavvy than the Ibiza. Installing a new differential would, of course, cure most of the torque steer and really sharpen the handling of any vehicle. I'm sure your 301bhp Corsa is a cracking toy and a lot of fun on track.

@knackerdecobre + Copey - My Ibiza torque steers as well but I didn't think as badly as the GSi does. I wasn't trying to say the Ibiza is a perfect car, just my preference of the 2. Having driven both, I felt that the Ibiza was more fun to drive more of the time in standard guise.

The GSi's power will make you grin on the straight bits but I personally enjoy quick cornering and nimble handling more and, for me, this is where the Ibiza snatches 1st place.

And of course I'm going to be biased toward the Ibiza anyway, a joint love of Seat cars is why we're all here in the 1st place no? :)

@Chris_2oo5 - With that length of commute, petrol will definitely work out better whichever vehicle you choose.

Hi.

i used have a GSI it was a grate car well speced, quick, comfortable handling wasn't grate but a set of coilovers would sort that out.

i know they look abit chavy but i think they look grate.

be warned tho i sold mind coz i was having allot of problems with it.

I looked into getting a GSI, very nice and not too over the top looks. Well built, good power, room for mods. But there a few nice examples around, far too many were bought by ****ing chavs and have been ragged and ruined.

I dont think handling is an issue on either, coily's and anit-roll bars on both will sort that out, i like both, the astra does have abit more room tho, the only thing that i dont like is the badge lol

my ibiza handles like a boat in comparision to my old C2 GT, both on standard suspsension, if you want fun i would go french but will fall apart lol

Yea i wud have a leon but there arent many nice 1s with low milage for the right price if you look on piston heads at most of the leons they have been re-mapped or have a bonnet bra on or something.

Point is there rnt many standard 1s about they all had some young lad whos thrased the **** off it
