Turbo is the same, yeah brakes are uprated, but the engine only have 20bhp more and 20 more nm of torque over the FR TDi

I test drove a cupra and FR and the Fr is a lot more stable under acceleration, if obviously a little slower. Would need wider wheels and somehow less torque steer if u wanted to stay dead straight

Cheers guys, so what are peoples insurance like on the Cupra petrol, and how old are you? I will be 22 with (hopefully!) 4 years ncb in the summer, but i have a London post code . Reckon it will be lots?

have had my ibiza cupra (petrol) since beginning of june this year. have loved every minute of it. i think it handles really well compared to my old saxo.

the seats arent the best, are comfy, but could do with more support around the sides to hold you in the seat. saying that though, i dont find myself flying around when cornering hard.

as people have said, they have surprised some bigger, more powerful cars. did a track day in the beginning of december and the car held its own against a bmw e30 325, toyota supras, porsche 944's and i even got a prosche boxster s blue flagged for being to slow. there was also some1 from the site doing the track day aswell in his leon cupra r. down the straights he was only slightly pulling away from me, but through the corners i was all over him! had the car on 3 wheels a lot aswell!

as for the insurance, im 21 (was 20 when i got it) and im paying £2800 a year!! have been driving for 3 and a half years, but was a named driver on my saxo so got no no claims, and i had 3 points (which have now come off) and a 14 day ban for speeding! am expecting it to drop signifcantly when i re-new my insurance!

Insurance was Expensive.

My renewal for my Cupra with Induction Kit, Dump Valve & REVO at 22 Licence for 4 years, 3 Yrs NCB, 0 Points or accidents was about £930ish.

I now pay £850ish for a 350Z with Induction kit, Manifold, Wheels & decatpipes/exhaust declared.

I always found Bell.co.uk the best to insure it with, although Greenlight were very competitive

The Cupra PD has 160PS with 243lb/ft (330nm) whilst the FR TDi has 130PS & 229lb/ft (310nm) so thats a difference of 30ps and 14lb/ft (20nm) if im not mistaken?

The petrol varients have 180PS with 162lb/ft (220nm) whilst the 150PS unit has the same torque at 162lb/ft (220nm) so 30PS out but same torque?

I have never driven a Cupra varient, but im sure the new facelift model Ibiza FR has the same size wheels, so will cope with the power just aswell

As for insurance quotes, Im not even looking at mine for another 2 months

The Cupra also comes with Stability Control as standard which should help you stop doing this......

Can you afford to run the Petrol or the Diesel?

As the Petrols gonna use far more juice, especially if your lead footed.

It might be worth you looking at the MPG that each of the vehicles will do and then looking at you average yearly mileage.

Then you could get some insurance quotes and basic servicing costs to see how much it is going to cost you to run before you make the leap

Or failing that go down the dealers on boxing day and haggle like a git

I'm thinking of a used one. Its mad that i could sell my loop and pick up an Ibiza Cupra without losing any money.

I dont do that many miles in a year so was swaying towards petrol.

Atleast he'll know its been well looked after, the amount of time you spent cleaning etc

Whoever buys it eventually will have a cracking low milage car

Glad to see your getting more members ready, my brother joined due to me and now owns a PD130 FR, and my new brother has just got a new job, and needs a new car... hmmm giving me ideas.

Anyway to go slighty back on track to the thread, Grapo id say work out cost per mile of both cars mpg/servicing then set a budget to buy for, and work that into the cost, dont be afriad to travel to get the right car, its alot of money to part with so make sure you find a good one!

Ian, out of interest how much did they give you for the car? My mother ended up buying my grandma's old Golf MK4 a good 3 years ago from the sale dealer that they sold it so, for the same P/X value but got a years warrenty etc (needed the sale as was end of a quarter) Maybe get the same thing done here

I got 9K from a Nissan dealer, which was 1K less than it was advertised at. Theres still 18months warranty left on my old one, everything went back to standard

Ive been trying to get my mate to buy it off them just so i can drive it again

I would definatley reccomend getting one, for the money theres not a lot that comes close to it

wish i cud get that sort of mileage! is that with the revo or not? if not, where sort of mpg where u getting with that?

took my cupra (petrol) up to santa pod back in august to see what it could do, and after 3 runs down the strip mt car averaged at 5.8 mpg

my insurance is pretty steep, but im just grining and bearing with it for a year until i have to renew (in april) and am hoping for it to drop quite a lot as im now 21, my points are off my license and will have a years NCB, anything below £2000 and i will be happy!

i wudnt change my ibiza for anything. wanted to get a mk3 cupra orignally but i took out a ibiza fr tdi at my local garage and loved it and when i found out the difference in price between the fr and cupra and my mum said she would pay the difference there was no going back!

my insuranse 4my petrol cupra (standard ) is £3000 for 10 months and that was searching every insurance company on net individually adding aditional drivers and things like that hopefuly that will go down as now im 19 and got yrs no claims

I found when I originally bought my cupra when it first came out I couldnt get insured on the Petrol, but could on the Diesel (~£600)

My insurance is now ~550 with ALL mods declared. (25, Kent postcode)

If you can afford it get the Cupra over the FR, I love my diesel although do lust towards the 1.8T every so often .

Best Mod.... Tyres! The P-Zero's are awfull. I make no bones about that. 2 laps on track and they go off.
F1's are beautiful.

i'll agree on that one, the p zero's arent as good as what i thought they wud be when i first got the car. arent to bad in the dry, but in the wet they are quite shocking! especially with how bad the wetahre is at the moment. i cant boot my car at all in this weather! any sort of power and the wheels just spin! had the wheels spinning to 70 when going onto the motorway the other day! turning isnt much fun either, tend to findmyself going straight when i shud be going left/right!
