Hy guys, i thing this is the best place to ask such question.

In the near future i am looking forward to sell my actual 1.4 tdi ibiza and buy one of the cars in the name of the topic.

So the owners of ibiza FR tdi and Cupra tdi, please let me know the ups and downs of these cars - specially engines, because in spain in some forums, the users are complaining about the turbines in the fr engines (they are braking down after a remap).

I really would appreciate your advice.

Thank you so much.

i have recently bought an fr and love it. i cant think of any downs. i was looking at the cupra but the insurance for me was 4000 where as for the fr it was 1400. They look the same really but obviously the cupra is a lot quicker, from what i have read aswel brakes are better bigger turbo etc but thats a given seeing as it is a faster car. fuel consumption for me is really good, got around 500 miles for a full tank and thats with some quick driving. the fr is quite a quick car, i am yet to remap mine so not sure about the turbo failing. hope this helps

The only downside to the Cupra is the extra insurance cost and extra purchase cost.
If you can afford these then its better than the FR.

If you want to save money, buy the FR.

Loads of people will say you can remap the FR to cupra power, but then you can remap the Cupra to more. Cupra has the better looks, better spec. So if you can afford it its a no brainer which to choose

hey mate well had usual stuff like e/w going wrong but i only had it 6 months and it would go in limp mode i had to switch off and on restarting it would be fine again. it did it a few times so was told could be maf sensor so got new one but it still done it. took it to a dealer who said it was turbo problem.i took it to my local garage who said same thing. so with the price of a new turbo on the cards i thought id get something new. it was a good car but u do get used to the power so they do need remapping. the last thing it did was keep blowing the intercooler pipe off which was really annoying. it had only done 42,000 miles by the way.suppose i was unlucky.
