Just sold my 03 leon cupra
Gonna look at getting in ibiza FR, havent decided to go for petrol or diesel yet, although the economy and performance potential of the diesel is swaying me. I test drove a mk2 leon last week, 2.0 Tdi sport and it sounded horrible..like a well old diesel. My question is does the ibiza tdi sound turd?! Used to have a Pug 106 1.5 D many moons ago and dont want it sounding like that!

They do sound a bit tractorish, and there is less sound proofing than on the mk1 and mk2 Leons. I used to have a TDI Cupra and it was quite loud on tickover but not as noticeable when driving at speed. I've also driven 2 TDI mk1 Leons with the same family of engines and they were quieter inside.

It will as you say, sound turd. IMO the ibiza is too small to cope with the noise weight and vibration of a diesel engine.

That said, the diesel is the one to go for if you want to spend a little less in the long run and you like telling your friends all about torque. You will need to familureise yourself with the following catch phrases and acronyms too:- "Torquey","real world", "in gear", "MPG", DERV", "kick in the back", "Smoke", "cheaper", "dark side" and "tractor".

That should see you right

hahahaha....im actually like that...its scary

i have the tdi FR and i love it, dunno how old you are but im 23 and its cheap enough on the insurance and also quick enough when you want it to be.

I drive about 55 miles a day so economy was a big thing for me and it hasnt let me down, yet, whilst still maintaining a bit of umphhhh when you press your right foot down.

Yes it does sound a bit tractor like when its idleing, :)

Ive got the 130 TDi, and the sound does take a while to get used to, but I do 80 miles each day, and more at weekends, so the economy makes sense, both insurance, road tax and fuel. The best thing is to test drive both and see which one you predfere. It also depends on what you want it for eg. commuting long distance or weekend fun. Whatever people may say about diesel, mine still makes me smile:D

Yeah i've grown to love my 130 tdi too! Test drove a really ragged FR before i decided to buy my 130 and it sounded awful! Really tractory (new word there) But if you find a mint one (which touch wood my 04 plate 130 seems to be) then they dont sound that bad. Plus i just turn my subs up a bit and that covers the sound haha!

can pick up tdi FR quite cheap nowadays, i got mine pre-reg with hardly any miles on the clock for a great price, just gotta stay patient and keep looking.

RE noise: yea turn up the sub then the whole car shakes

Well you either love or hate diesel.I love mine and would not change it.IMO its not that noisy and doesnt seem to vibrate badly.I even like the sound of it.However if your used to smooth petrol turbo power it will be difficult to get on with.

I never thought I could be converted to diesel power but it is quite a car! Got it on thursday and the cabin seems quiet and not too much noise from the engine, it's really smooth on the motorway and you never have to change gear! I did about 160 miles over the weekend and averaged 49.7 MPG, and i was proper caning it! :p
