Ibiza immobiliser keys

I only have 1 immobiliser key for my car and need another cut as a back up, my dad went to get one cut today and they said they cannot just cut a key on its own (as it wouldnt work) i have to get one cut with the immobiliser electronically coded to my car as my car wouldnt open with an ordinary key. The problem is my dad was quoted £70 for the electronic key....

1) Is there anywhere where i can just get a key cut on its own (as this is a lot cheaper) if that will work??

2) If not where is the cheapest place to get a key with immobiliser cut and coded as £70 is expensive for a key : (

3) IS IT A SAD FACT THAT IF I WANT A BACK UP KEY IM JUST GOING TO HAVE TO PAY £70

consider 70 pound cheap if its all coded to your immobiliser mate...
your car will open, it just wont run as the immobiliser will kick in and cut your engine out.

Yep, £70 is a good price for a bog standard coded key. I paid only a fiver less for mine. If you want a remote locking fob it costs more, and a flip key is even more.

if you shop about some of the bigger locksmiths you'll find of them have the facility to 'clone' the original key

they cat the metal to match then copy the chip inside into a blank chip - that way the car assumes it's one and the same key

can work out less hassle and cheaper but you'll need to find a supplier that's clued up on them

You need to search for proffesional auto locksmiths in your area. Most of them will have clone tools for immobiliser chips these days.
