Ibiza Mk 3 1.4 8v Engine, Revs at 80 mph?

Hi all,

what i want to know, from ibiza mk3 1.4 8v (petrol) owners, is how many revs the engine runs at in 80mph in 5th gear obviously, since mine is almost bang on 4,000 rpm, but have been told thats a bit high, wondered if anyone else got this?
rpms in 5th are:
3,000 at 60
3,500 at 70
4,000 at 80
(approximately)

roughly I remember it being about 20mph/1000 rpm (giving a theoretical max of 118mph - as tested on some ice...)

so 80 @4k is about right.

who's told you it's a bit high? someone with a bigger engine? they'll have longer gearing.

More modern hatchbacks are coming with longer gearing, and crap performance for economy.

i THINK mine is at 3,250 at 70mph if i rememember correctly. So 4,000 at 80mph is maybe a bit high. Im working off memory here though

mine is about the same as that, its only a small engine so revs are gonna be high.

it was a just a friend, who doesnt have a Seat, it's probably not as bad they / I thought then, but as you say m0rk, its different with new cars and the economical gearing,

Yes theortical 118 would be nice to hit. Ive found 102 is about all you can get even with a hill.
