So what's going on with the Ibiza model range at the moment? I was thinking about changing cars, tempted to go for an Ibiza, but I'd like something quick.
180-brake from a 1.4tsi in a Cupra/Boc sounded tempting, but I think a few have had problems with these, and am I right in saying they aren't selling these new any more?

So what's the 'hot-hatch' ibiza to buy new at the moment?

I would have liked to have got another diesel, but the 1.6tdi seems neither particularly economical or quick, and the 1.2tdi even less so.

So where does that leave new ibiza buyers - only able to buy the 1.2 n/a model?!

Facelift Cupra will be availalbe at the end of the year, theres probably quite a few current ones in stock too! It seems newer ones are less prone to problems.

Also the 1.2 TSI seems a good engine though it'll be no quicker than the 1.6 TDI. Economy on the 1.6 TDI seems to improve after about 30k miles. But as you say its not a hot hatch.

The current quickest would be the 1.4 TSI 150PS FR model with the DSG gearbox. I wouldn't go for that though, a 2.0 TDI or 1.2 TSI with the manual gearbox will be better to live with although not quite as urgent.

fr with a remap is the same as the cupra mate, the engine problems have been fixed, mine had the new engine replacement and its been perfect.

Why wouldn't you go for the DSG box? The problem is I'd like something a bit quicker than the 1.2 if I'm honest. Why is the 1.4tsi not very good to live with?

Yeah I was wondering this - I know you've had a lot of problems with yours. What was the difference between the 150ps 1.4tsi and the 180ps 1.4tsi? Is there anything mechanical or is it just the map? Whatever I get I will get it through work, so I'd have rather had the quicker model out of the box.

Why are Audi still selling a 185ps 1.4tsi put Seat aren't?

Does anyone know what engine/output we will be looking at in the new release Ibiza?

Because although a fantastic bit of technology, the reliability concerns me as owners have reported a lot of problems.

I'd wait and see if the new 140PS (turbo only) cylinder on demand 1.4 TSI from the Polo BlueGT makes it into the Ibiza. That has a 6-speed manual gearbox and seriously impressive CO2/ MPG compared to the current twincharged engine.

It is literally just the map apparently

Strictly speaking the 185 is exclusive to the A1 as it was the 180 the Ibiza Cupra had (along with the Polo GTI and Fabia VRS)

Does anyone know what engine/output we will be looking at in the new release Ibiza?

I'd guess it will get the 185 otherwise the new Cupra wouldn't really be an improvement over the outgoing model.

If you want balls out fun, I'd go for the 1.4 TSi. I've noticed a lot less problems being reported, however if you want a economical 'warm' hatch I'd say the 2.0 TDi (with a remap of course :) ).

funny thing is i had my engine and gearbox replaced , the new engine has the A1s engine code.

I didn't realise there were still so many problems with them, it's hardly like the tech is brand new now!

The cylinder on demand sounds interesting - I'd be intrigued to see how well it actually drove. I wonder if they'll offer cylinder on demand on the 185 version!

So if it's just a map, does that mean you could map the FR to 200+? Because presumably the Cupra/Boc maps from 180 to 200+ - so if the Cupra/Boc differ to the FR only in the map, does that mean the FR would map straight from 150 to 200+? Seems a bit extreme!

Sorry yes, you are quite right - so the 180 is the 'old tech' 1.4tsi, and the 185 is the 'new tech' 1.4tsi - so the 180 has been pulled in preparation for the 185 to be released towards EOY.

I'd guess it will get the 185 otherwise the new Cupra wouldn't really be an improvement over the outgoing model.

How much of a differential is there in real life between consumption on the two models? I don't set much store by manufacturer-quoted mpg, especially not on these models - they seem to be all over the place.

What does the 2.0tdi map to?

Thanks for the responses guys! Please keep them coming, really helpful for me.

Remap on the 2.0TDi will get you to around 185BHP and 316lb/f torque. My mpg is below, nothing like quoted figures, but I don't drive for economy :)

Remap on the TSi FR will take you over 200BHP as you said.

I had the 2.0 tdi fr Ibiza 2010 befor my bocanegra and I have to say there crap on fuel didn't get no we're near quoted figures

Same chopped mine in for a bocanegra and my stage 1 remapped boca is 216bhp 212lb/ft ish and I got 39.5mpg on a long run on thurs adhering to the speed limits.

ive had 50mpg from mine on a run to staffs, and normally sit at 60 getting about 43-46 on motorway and a steady 38 too work and back.

Even a diesel wouldnt be THAT much higher.

and yeah they said it was an update to the CAVE engine and now have a CAVG for the 180 and CAVF still for the 150
