Ibiza Noisy on Startup

Hi, I have a 2001 1.4 Ibiza Chill.....

Simple question first, can anyone recommend a workshop manual for this model.

Secondly ....

For some time now the car is noisy when starting from cold. Best described as a "diesel like" or "excessive engine pinking" noise. The colder it is the worse it sounds.

Reving to about 1200 revs and the noise goes. It is accompanied by some slight hesitation when moving off. Once moving the noise decreases and dissapears when engine is full warmed up.

The noise would appear to be coming from the timing belt area.

My inclination is two things, a worn bearing/tensioner or ..... a faulty tempreture sensor.

Anyone any more specific views.

u can get an elsawin manual for it on the internet that is what i did and there pretty good

The 1.4 is a little noisy at start up, but nothing like a diesel. When was it last serviced and what oils in it?

Recent oil and filter change, used semi synthetic 10/40

Car has done less than 40K miles

Should be freat on that tbh, if the noise is coming from the cambelt area then i'd have a good look. Only other thing is that some sludge from when the oil oil was drained has gone into a tappet causing it to rattle
