Ibiza Subframe alignment information required.

Lord Edmund Blackadder
I've had Cupra bushes fitted, the garage dropped the subframe to do this, they refiited the subframe and advised that I get the 'tracking checked' I have been to somewhere that measures toe, camber and rear alignement, whilst the toe can be adjusted the steering still does not track normaly, the operator stated that the camber on the nearside was considerable more than the offside and that the camber was not adjustable.

The Haynes manual states that the only way to adjust camber is to loosen the subframe and move it side to side to adjust camber. Can anyone explain how to align the subframe as I cannot find any specific information either on here or on Briskoda...

Cheers

Yes, well that is correct, your aligner will need to move the front subframe until he gets "good" camber (equal side to side) and "good" alignement to the rear wheels.

If the subframe can move side to side, it must have enough play to move back and forward, won't that affect castor angles? Seems a poor design? if there is no adjustment in the lower ball joints..

Remember one thing "these cars are Skodas with a different set of clothes" - so, that means that they were designed to be able to get assembled from "variable parts" and worked on using basic tools.

The first port of call will be the front<> and side<>side adjustment. Most people say that the lower ball joints can not be moved - but I reckon that they can be a bit although maybe not enough to officially call it "adjustment".

If there is specific camber, toe, caster requirements and if the subframe alignment determines two of these then there must be measurement specs that we can get, it cannot be just guesswork?

Its not guesswork. The alignment place you went to should have done it. Theres no way you could set it to the exact same point on every single ibiza and expect it to be correct. It has to be done on a car by car basis.

I think that places that have the proper gear to do this work, will also have an up to date listing of manufacturers figures. That way they can enter the car under test description and then the readout will indicate if you are getting a "pass" or "fail".
