anybody had trouble with the exhaust housing warping etc? as the exhaust is blowing quite badly on the ibiza and cant seem to find where its blowing from.
But heard the vf34 is prone for this or housing cracking?

if so whats the more likely cause and how hard to remove exhaust and manifold?

often

and yes

:banghead:

Yeh, I wasnt joking about how often it happens...!! Seen a turbo that had covered around 600 miles with cracks in the exhaust housing, granted it was 600 hard miles but still.

unless you are prepared to keep EGT's down the VF34 P18/P20 housings can and will warp/crack
overspool them and their bearings can fail.

both of these are not uncommon on cars running >1.2bar boost

if you run them on the leaner side of life the egt's will go high... as seen on some maps from some tuners.

I'm sure I'll have some nice pictures of cracks to post when I remove mine..........when I pull my finger out and get it done.

How much is a new housing for an IHI ??

Turbo not really designed for >300??

Treated right they do 300bhp+ happily from what I am told. Abuse, not set up well or not monitor well and you are asking for trouble so cant really complain imo.

Well I've finally pulled my finger out and got my car booked in on 3rd November to have my IHI/manifold looked at.

I'm still hopefull I only have some minor warpage and blowing from the flange, in which case I'll get everything skimmed and do Bill's spigot mod.

If the turbo's cracked then it's 16G6 time as I don't want to fork out for rods, remap etc...

Am also planning on fitting a Race Diagnostics gauge so I can monitor everything including EGT's ( I think my ECU allows this?):

Well turbo came off today and guess what?

Yep cracked exhaust housing by the wastegate - actually not that bad but a bit of a lip meaning the wastegate wouldn't be sealing properly.

The rest of the turbo looks fine, both turbines are good and no play on the shaft and no evidence of leaking from any of the flanges so can't have been too much warping going on? Manifold still looks mint, downpipe is fine too.

According to original Jabba receipt P20 housing is only around £150 so TBH I'm going to give them a ring in the morning and see if I can get a replacement.

Plan at the moment is to keep boost down to 1.3 until I get EGT monitoring installed and take it from there, maybe go for some WM injection...

Monitoring EGTs is good but you need to check whats going on fuelling wise as to help keep them down the map should run rich. Also I think 225 engines have egt as standard. Somebody correct me if im wrong though.
