Hi there all, wondering if anyone has had this problem.

I recently put a system in my car with an Alpine V12 Amp 500W, its connected to my car battery but since installation I have noticed a slight drop in performance in my 1.6 16V. The car is not as nippy as what it used to be before installation, I spoke to the garage who installed it in and they said the car is drawing more current and the car makes a little more noise than usuall when idle and it is because of this. (So I was told)

Over the past few mornings the car seems to take a little longer to start than usuall, with the battery light staying on for a second or two longer than it used to. Is it because of the weather getting colder in the mornings or the system?

Are battery packs or spare batteries available to run the system off as my 6"9 shelf speaks are around 120W and my sub around 390W RMS.
(Installation of my system around 4 weeks ago).

Car due for 20K service in the next few weeks, will the garage kick up a fuss if I get them to look at it?!

Thanks

Umar

This sounds like your battery is getting tired or the alternator isn't charging properly. I had 2000wrms worth of amps running off my standard battery in my LCR and there was never a problem.

Simple way to check is to drive for a couple of days without the stereo on at all and see if the problem goes away, but I'd look at the battery and alternator first.

A capacitor is completely wrong to install in this situation. Caps but MORE strain on your electrical system not less.

i didnt know they put more strain on the system, i thought they just make better use of what's available.

maybe the 1.6 leon has a smaller battery than the LC/LCR? i havent seen a 1.6 leon so I wouldn't know

also, pete, would the wire gauge have an effect?

i'd install a higher amp battery and capacitor - 1 farad should be enough. also make sure remote cable is connected correctly (i.e. amp turns off with HU/car)

where can I purchase a higher amp battery from and is there specific makes that you would recommend?!

It makes sense if you think about it. You connect the cap up inline to your amp, and the amp draws power from it when it can't get it from the battery/alternator. But where does the Capacitor get it's power to recharge? Yup the battery and Alternator

I doubt the battery is much smaller, the battery in the LC/LCR is pathetic as it is, I don't think you can buy smaller

Wire gauge would cause a voltage drop at the amp if it was too small, but wouldn't cause the car any real trouble.

As I said I'd turn the stereo off and leave it off for a few days and see if the problem goes away. Then get the battery and alternator outputs checked.

Many thanks for that Pete,

would I need to take the car back to the dealership to get it checked out if this was the case or to the garage that installed the system in the first place?
