Hi,

I'm having an induction kit fitted to my 2.0TDI Leon MK2, do I need to do anything else to my car? I've heard and read about MAF faults etc??

Any info would be greatfull

Cheers
Tom

The oil that comes with most filters is required to stop smaller particles from getting through. I think Stew is advising you apply as per the instructions, but not too much as this could drain through and potentially cause said dreaded MAF problems.

Contrary to many other people's experiences, I ran a RamAir Induction kit (open cone) for around 30,000 miles trouble free.

If you haven`t bought the induction kit already then don`t. You will not get any extra power from fitting an induction or so called uprated panel filter on your car even if it is remapped.

No extra power, but surely some nicer induction sound.
The MAF should be ok if the filter isn't overoiled and is cleaned regurarly each 15k miles or so (just in case).

Tis true, but you will get a nicer induction sound!

So everyone agrees that fitting a green panel filter will give no extra power and is only done for sound. So why does everyone alway rip into anyone asking about fitting a diesel dump valve to their car then as it too gives no power and is done just for sound ?

IMO because the "dump valve" is just a useless accessory on a diesel engine with no practical purpose and an air filter either standard/aftermarket is essential to preserve the engine (and turbo) condition.

True but i am not talking about removing the air filter but removing a very good OEM paper panel and fitting an " uprated " panel filter that we all agreed does nothing other then make a noise and possibly damage an expensive MAF if over oiled. I don`t see the point in a diesel dump valve but to me a lot of people are total hypocrites as they are quite happy to rip into people wanting a diesel dump valve because they like the noise even though they know there is no power gain but have an "up rated" panel filter fitted to their car just for the noise them selfs.

I think the worst thing about the dump valves is the £300 price tag. The filters are relatively inexpensive and washable ones can pay for themselves eventually as you don't need to buy new paper ones every 10k. Mines done at least 60k+ now, which means I've saved on 6 x stock filters.

Not sure I fancy an induction kit, but these BMC CDA filter units look mighty fine to me. :)

Had the car RR'd yesterday, 204 BHP with 330ILB of torque after fitting the induction kit I got 206 BHP with 350ILB of torque...

What about a bmc cda, My brother had one of those fitted to his hdi, and that increased top end speed considerabley, Like 5mph, Im looking at fitting one with my miltex system. What do you recon will i see any differnce at all with a bmc cda alone. Other than sound,

Only people that have experience of one comment, dont want my mind more confused!

That's nice! [B)]

But there are some some factors that should be taken into consideration:
- Were they followed runs?
- Was the paper filter clean (low milleage)?

BTW, what was the induction kit?

Hi trqster,

The paper filter had 18k on it, the induction kit is a Pipercross viper.

These were Followed runs.

Hi Tom, yes, I mean were the tests on the rr made at the same day, with paper filter then with the Pipercross Viper?

Anyway, good figures, very similar to my own. :)

Torque always puts a smile on my face, not heard very good things about Pipercross but I'll wait and see and make my own mind up..spool up seems to be a bit quicker now too..

Another mod that deffo makes the spool-up quicker is a straight-flow exhaust - I was quite impressed with the difference it made in my case.

I've got Milltek exhaust system on at the moment (apart from the back box, as they haven't designed one yet!!) is free flow different???

Cheers

I guess yours should be just as or even more free-flow as mine. I've kept the standard piping diameter (50mm) and just added a de-cat pipe and a straight/direct pipe muffler/ressonator at the end. Very quick spool-up and a great V8 "wannabe" roar under wot as the result. Haven't measured power figures, but no more than 2-3bhp expected.
Very cheap mod also (~£100), although obvisously not as perfect fitting and of the quality of a Miltek exhaust. ;)
