Installing Subwoofer & Amp

Hi, looking at installing a jbl sub and amp. Has anyone got a guide or hints and tips on how to do this.
Advice on the wiring would be very useful i.e removing the glove box to feed the power wire through the firewall. Which cables go to the head unit (I have a Jvc unit) and best place to ground.
Also how I go about setting the gain once all connected up.

Guide:

take out headunit,
option A) put in aftermarket unit and wire like a normal install.
option B)splice in an RCA converter,

rca converter= speaker wire to rca. i took mine from the rear speakers outputs while still maintainig the rear speakers.

wire RCA to boot.

wire power from battery to boot
wire remote from fag lighter socket.
wire earth to amp to boot/earth somewhere.

and connect to amp.

connect amp to sub. done.

done.
