Insurance group confusion!

We have just had our fleet insurance company come back to us with the amended price after taking delivery of our new Leon st fr150. They are telling us that the insurance group is 27 when all info I can find (Parker's guide etc) tells me it's 22 however the 186 engine is group 27.
We have told them that there must be an error but they are saying that they use the reg number of the car for the info. Is there anyway I can find out what engine we have easily? The info from our contract hire company told us it is the 150bhp also.
As much as I'd love to have the wrong vehicle I'm not sure I'll want to pay the extra company car tax!!

Dieselface. Cheers for the link but the reg number and vin don't bring any details up :(
Niggle. We don't have the v5 as it's a lease car. Looks like I may have to contact the lease company and get a copy

In the boot under the carpet will be your options sticker. Take a photo or write it down. Engine code will give it away!

Edit - on second thoughts mine has been put in the service booklet.

It does when it's your company and have to pay the premium!! We have a fleet policy but the price still depends on the vehicles on it.

Insurance groups on Parkers don't directly translate to insurers. Each insurer has a different rating system and the car group will be different from insurer to insurer. On a fleet policy you can have a much higher grouped vehicle Ie a BMW M5, but pay less for the premium than a brand new Leon Tdi because a particular insurer may give a large age of car discount. Albeit the M5 will probably have more restricted cover by limiting driving to drivers over 25 or 30.
Along with other commercial insurances, I deal with a lot of motor fleet policies.

Surely that's just their take on risk though? I would think that the actual insurance group is the same, otherwise what's the point in having insurance groups? I think the car is coming up as a 184 on the insurance companies system, or they incorrectly categorise a 150 as the higher group (that's if they have even have two engine derivatives).

Auto Express have the 150 at Group 20 and the 184 at 26, and they are usually correct, as the have my Ibiza Cupra at 27 which is right.

As I say insurance groups are different from company to company. Some insurers will only group vehicles one to 20.

In a fleet, depending how the fleet is rated, the 1.2 Tsi may cost exactly the same premium as a 150 or 184tdi or even a cupra 280.
All cars can be one premium say £450 each vans upto 7.5t maybe £750 etc etc

Fleet is a lot different to standard motor policies. Fleet policies are generally underwritten by an underwriter, where private car is a computer generated premium

Cheers guys. The insurance company have agreed to "drop" the car to the lower group which seems strange as I feel they had it wrong I the first place. Anyway, costs are considerably less than before so all good!
