Has anybody noticed big increases in their Insurance? I have had my latest quote from my Insurance Company and in the space of a year it's gone up over 26%. Last year I stuck with my Insurance Company as they had quoted a very reasonable price of £159 for fully Comp with max NCB, bearing in mind that I am over 65 and do very low mileage, this year they want £201. This is for a 1.4 ACT 150 Leon, I haven't started doing the comparison sites yet but just wondered how this compares to what other folks are getting quoted, for info I don't live in a big city I live in a small Essex town.

Mines risen too :( winter time is always more expensive for insurance though. Summer seems to be up to 200 quid cheaper

Shopping around annually for insurance (of all kinds) seems to be part of life these days. Last year I found my insurer wanted nearly 20% more. After I said I was going elsewhere, they offered me a premium with only a 4% increase - but too late. This kind of story is commonplace.

65. Insurance bumps up massively after retirement age. MY FIL pays £1.5K for a 2008 Ford Ka. No bumps & full no claims. Admitted he's 90 but still got all his faculties. I passenger with hime regularly (to check he's still ok).

Mine is £20 cheaper than last year at £230 (Esure) and I'm 60 years young. Compare the rodent had Esure cheapest but £32 dearer than my renewal invitation, so I will be staying with them

has been reported widely recently that insurance will be increasing.
£ has dropped, parts cost more, insurance company profit margins dropping.
People claiming for everything they can get .

All this - guaranteed courtesy cars, etc all end up providing insurance more expensive.
But also, it used to be if your car got hit and it still drove you carried on and got it repaired when you could.
now its a case of give us the car, we give you a nice car to drive, (charge it to the insurance company). we will repair it in a day but wont tell you so we can claim the full 7 days for the loan car and then claim it off the other party. everyones out for what they can get so insurance increases. and as such more people feel the same when they do need to claim, its a viscious circle.

Friend recently lost a wing mirror, (merc) got a bill for £800 for replacement, is it a case that cars are getting so complicated that even simply things cost silly money.

don't even get me started on the personal injury 'victims'. -

I am 18 my insurance was 3900! that is with a black box... without would of cost me £8,000. Insurance companies are evil to young drivers

That's funny, my insurance quotes went up if I had a black box fitted!! To bring it into context though my first car was an Austin A35 50's vintage which I paid £50.00 for but the insurance even in those days was as much as the car LOL but I am talking about the late 60's though.:)

Don't get me started. I have two gripes. Why the same company can have two prices for same policy, your renewal and the (usually) cheaper quote through the comparison site. Now call me naïve, but surely selling direct to the consumer, who is already a customer, involves less overhead than using a comparison reseller?

The second is automatic renewal, this should be optional to opt in, not mandatory. They always give the protecting the policy holder from inadvertently driving uninsured. Patronising, much.

Time to put my soap box away...

In the last budget George Osborne increased the insurance tax from 6% to 9.2% not sure how much this would increase insurance but this will be part of it.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...hike-set-to-hit-businesses-and-consumers.html

mm i'd guess at about 3.2%
(for those who can add up, technically it would be slightly less than 3.2% - a nats **** over 3%/ all in)

mines £800 and im 24 with 0 no claims, which i think is pretty good on a cupra 280
just looking at where you live....
put a london postcode in and try again ;)

Never accept a written renewal quote ,get on the phone and barter, if they won't budge ring around, use the comparison sites. You'll nearly always find some where cheaper.

Cheaper yes. Prepared to pay out when needed? Cheap isn't always best.

That old chest nut, who doesn't pay out? In today's world Internet and social media if there was any insurance company that didn't pay out they'd go out of business pretty quickly.

Obviously if 'Backerdoor scammer insurance Plc' is only £20 cheaper than (insert reputable company name here ) you don't go with an unknown for the sake of £20.
