Hi all,

I've had my Cupra for 3-4 months now and thought I wanted to get some modifications done, first I was going to add an induction kit, then exhaust and re-map. But, it might all have to be put on hold due to my insurance (esure). I called about the induction kit and they want to charge me an additional £85.67 to add it to the policy. Considering the annual policy only costs me £380ish, i'm trying to work out where they pulled this figure from.

How much does your insurance charge you for mods?

Lol mine charged me £300 to declare my bumpers, spoiler and wheels, but that was a full quote from beginning. £300 difference from no mods

Right called them again to find out for the rest of the modifications:

Induction Kit £85.67
Exhaust system £85.67
Stage 1 re-map (21-30% bhp increase) £145.33

Exhaust and re-map seem acceptable to me, so might just give the induction kit a miss.

Some insurers just don't like mods regardless of age, car, area or whatever!

What's weird is that they will insure I did a quote the other day through a comparison site with my car as standard, and then with tints, alloys, remap and lowered suspension.

The difference? Increase of £60. So if I buy a new policy they'll insure it, but they won't add it on

Exactly what I did, I waited for my old policy to end and then added all mods to my new policy and it was all ok

The £85.67 just sounds like their admin charge to add to the policy.
What bhp did you tell them the remap will add?

Of the £85.67, I was told £25ish was an admin fee.

The lady I spoke to said esure does the bhp increase in banding of 10%, I was basing the remap around the 29% so a total power of 309.6 bhp.

But on a side note, if you have declared a power increase do you think they would bother checking if you ever need to make a claim?

These beat Flux for me.

Excellent service. Bit of a ball ache with photos, forum membership screenshots and limited mileage put on the policy, all mods declared and they cover all sorts of motor sports spec as well.

The only strange thing is my policy is actually with Aviva and going direct they didn't want to know

No increase for lowering and re-mapping my newly purchased Leon FR (when i get the mods fitted)

Most specialist insurers don't mind mods, it's the bigger/direct companies that don't like them

What if you "forget" to tell them about the induction kit, not like its a hard thing to change if worst comes to worst and you do have an accident.

That's if you get a chance to change it before the assessors look at the car. Some get taken straight to a yard after an accident, and you won't get a chance to swap back.

Im sure theres some of the guys would take a bribe. But yeah your probably safer telling. Personally I wouldnt tell, but my insurance is around 3k  so cant afford to do many mods lol, Besides its just an excuse for them to add a few £££ on!
