Intelligent Cruise Control & Speed Limit recognition

Due to a (minor) disability I am reliant on adaptive cruise control. In my current car (Audi) I just turn this on and it picks up the speed limit and drives at this or the speed of the car in front.

I just test drove a Tavascan and was told it cant do this. The ACC just works by setting the desired speed then it aims for this / slows down for the car in front. eg. If I move from a 40mph to 30mph zone the car picks up the change in speed limit and tells you but doesnt slow down.

Is this correct?!

The info online is equally confusing and conflicting!

If so then it sounds bizarre and a really easy change to transfer the new speed limit to the ACC's target speed so I dont get why you wouldnt want to have the option to do this.

It's also a game breaker for me which is a shame as I quite liked the car.

Not that I use ACC but it will drive at the speed you set it at. Say 50. If it enter says a 30 mph area it cuts back then will move back to 50. It's informed by the digitised road speed + traffic signs read by the camera in the windscreen. Distance keeping from the car in front is also set by you and it will remain that distance. Uses the car's front radar. So will limit to the speed of the car in front if less than your max desired speed and keeps in the safe keeping distance you have set.

The youngsters like ACC since they can lock onto the car in front and follow it. Where you sometimes see a procession of cars travelling too close together, since they have set the ACC distance at that. Well what I think is happening when I've seen it. Locked in a procession once with that down a hill to round about where I'd normally use engine breaking... in your Tavascan you'll be regenerating if slowing down.

One of the minor complaints you hear is where the digitised road speed is at variation to what it should be or it has misread a traffic sign. You can always override it.

That's what I would expect it to do. Seems that the Salespeople need a bit of training in how their cars work!

IMHO many car salespeople aren’t interested in the cars they’re selling and that’s reflected in their product knowledge - or more correctly, lack of product knowledge. To them a car is just another consumer durable product…….

To quote @Syphon ‘s post from earlier this week in the ‘Mk5 CUPRA Leon - Dedicated Sub Forum’ discussion topic;

There will always be exceptions - there are some very knowledgeable car salespeople who share our passion, but they’re probably in the minority.
