The FTDI drivers shouldn't have changed when you updated the software, however it would be worth checking. What I reckon is that either Windows or VAGCOM as caused the config to skip posts. So either Windows has moved the lead to a different COM port, or VAGCOM hasn't remembered what port it was using.

Check in Windows hardware that the lead is still located on one of the first four ports, then rerun the VAGCOM setup to set the port to the same.

That's probably the case, I'm still working with 311 at the moment as I've not needed to upgrade! :) The ports 1-4 restriction was something to do with the USB to serial connection, you did use the USB connections but they presented themselves as standard serial COM ports.

well it went from bad to worse:(

everything seemed to work ok up to plugging into the car, lead went from red to green and turned on ignition and went to test and it came up with interface not found. disconnected the cable and tested again and everything tested ok. tried it a few times but everytime the cable was plugged into the car interface not found came up. At this stage it really was head scratching time, with the cable not plugged into the car interface was found:shrug:

anyhow it went from bad to worse as i tried swapping the usb lead on the pc and it needed the drivers updated but it wouldnt load them, tried reverting the cable back to the same port but it wont up date the drivers.
tried unloading the program and reloading it again and the drivers load ok until i connect the vag com cable to the pc and it needs to load the drivers again which it wont!!

help :(

Where did you get this cable? eBay?

If a genuine Ross-Tech interface, then you should be entitled to tech support from us. We'll be back in the office on Monday, Jan 3. Have the serial number of the interface and the contact details by which you bought the unit available if you call us. If you email us, send those details in the email.

If an eBay special, translation: chinese ripoff, it sounds to me like something has gone flaky in your cable. Does your vendor provide support and/or a warranty? You might want to check that.
