Air con works, in that I can get cold air and plenty of it (last regassed 7/2013). It seems to take a long time ~5mins to go start to blow the cold out (rather than bucket loads of warm air) once the car is moving. Then it will stay cold. It seems to go warm again when the car becomes stationary (still trying to exactly confirm it).

Feels like the compressor is working but something sensor wise isn't. A couple of HVAC error codes might be relevant:

00229 - Refrigerant Pressue - sporadic 001- Upper Limit Exceeded
00710 - Defroster Flap Positioning Motor (V107) - Static

Anyone had something similar or previous experience? Car is on an 05 plate.

For anyone else who may get these symptoms. The reason for this was radiator fan failure. There is a master and slave on this car, both were not working. I expect the master had died.

What should happen is when you start the car the fans should spin up after a few seconds as the condenser is at the front and that also needs cooling. When stationary, without the fans, it won't cool, hence not very cold air con. When you move the car the airflow over the front is enough to cool it down and hence why the aircon then worked when the car was moving (but only after some time in hot weather).

Replaced Fans (about ~£100 for a pair from GSF) (fans sit in an enclosure) - Air con now back to getting cold super quick on first start at idle.

if you last had a regas 2 years ago just get the pressures checked as a normal running system will lose lose about 10 percent of its gad a year through normal use.also periodically use it in the winter as well.it keeps the seals lubed.the amount of people we get come in with just an o ring leaking is very common.glad you got it sorted though.
