intrecooler inlet temp gauge?

have been toying with the idea of fitting another gauge unger the cd player next to my boost gauge.... i was thinking about a temperature gauge after the intercooler... i have a auto gauge boost gauge at the moment and was wondering if a water temp gauge t6apped into the pipework will give a good enough reading? something like this

i cant seem to find a gauge that is specificaly for this i did a search on the internet and only found one but it was around £250 any help would ba apreciated

It might not give a very accurate reading as water conducts heat very well but air does not. It would probably not show the correct temperature and react slowly to changes in temp.

Would be a nice gauge to have tho

I'm looking at getting a Scangauge which shows the intake air temp among other readings.

How about using an ambient temp sensor? Afterall its designed to read air temps. You could even use the one thats on it now and you'd have it displayed on the climate control and the trip comp!

i have tried the one on the climate control one and its not to great does anyone know where abouts the sensor is that reads the inlet temp? i have also had a look at the scangauge unit looks verg good indeed!

As I understand it, a lot of air temperature gaues won't react fast enough to be of any use - you'd be surprised how quickly the inlet temp changes, I was.

Anything that looks at AIT from the ECU will actually be looking at the temperature of the inlet manifold and not at the actual air temperature, again you'd be surprised at the difference.

I think the best thing to do is to use a digital air probe/thermostate. You would get a very good reading with it.

Should be getting my Scangauge on Monday It will solve my problem with not being able to get vag-com working while engine is running which I need to solve another problem, and means I wont need to plumb in a boost gauge among other things.

i have the scanguage fitted to my Mini, had it for passed year. intake tmep refreshes 4 times a second. just makesure that the function works on the Ibiza, as all cars are different.

kriso you wil have to let me know what you think then you get your scangauge! as for refreshing 4 times a second thats pretty fast! i think i will be getting one of these! just to check the scangauge does read the inlet temp after the intercooler doesnt it?

I would think so, as you cant realy call it the inlet temp if it was before the IC. Ill let you know how it goes - just need to find a suitable place to mount it.

wel i just read through the manual on there website..... its so omplex all the diferent settings! it even measures the manifold pressures lol! it definatley measures the temperatures after the intercooler looks a right good pice of kit! i wil be getting one! also is the plug in connector the standard plug that fits these?

just been reading it myself lol. It comes with the standard 15-pin OBD connector the same as Vag-Com etc uses. Just plugs in behind the little cubby-hole to the right of steering wheel

The gauage might be able to read lots of different things but if your engine doesn`t have the censors the gauage will show nothing. Just a word of warning..

yeah i understand this but all i realy want is inlet temps and boost etc the rest are a bonus.... i think there are most the sensors in the engine any way not to sure if there is a turbo manifold sensor tho

Well it turned up today No Manifold pressure which is a bit disappointing but inlet temp works. It goes up to like 37c if I sit in traffic for a while then you see it plummet to around 20 or less when you set off again. BHP display is good too. Not had that much time to play with it yet tho.

what it gives you a bhp figure? how does this work? this is e scangauge you are on about not one of the higher models?

It works out the BHP from the RPM and estimated torque the same as vag-com does. It's only a rough reading but pretty cool seeing it change say if you floor it it shoots up to 140 for me.
