My iphone thread where i stated there would be £100 off from today was deleted because it was a advert !
Now ive been a member of scoobynet, civic type r and we used to post threads like this to help other members.
some people let the little power they have go to there heads sometimes

This is SeatCupra.net, not Scoobynet. :)

If we allowed a new thread telling people about every special offer, from a multidude of sellers, on a diversity of items, the forums would be full of threads with no relation to Seats. What is the diference betwen the Ipod post and someone making a thread saying Tesco are doing buy-one-get-one-free on vine tomatoes?

Furthermore, from our forum rules

We the administration, are volunteers, and also have full time careers, and commitments which do come as a priority, as such we don't always have the luxury of limitless free time to explain why we may delete a post, however, you are always welcome to inquire why a post was deleted or edited if you don't understand it yourself. If you do not know who was the admin that edited or deleted your post, you should e-mail [email protected] or contact any of the other admins to sound your complaint.

Furthermore, under no circumstances are you to start a discussion/ or rant about it in the forum or thread itself. Firstly, it serves absolutley no purpose as no admin will respond to you publicly, other than to state the rules. Secondly, it merely instigates pointless arguments over how this Forum should be run.

And we would like to make it absolutely crystal clear: the 'how this Forum should be run' is not open for debate. SEATCupra.net is a non subscription forum, owned and run by private individuals, for the free use of the public.

You can ALWAYS make suggestions but you cannot demand, nor publicly challenge the way this place is run. Remember: this is a private service, we dont ask you to pay for its upkeep, we are not public officials and sadly or happily you do not get the chance to elect any of us.

I'd still say usefull posts like that should be given consideration to stay for a day or two...

In the past many of us have had free evo mag for 3 issues, or 6 issues of autocar, free car polish, free minieggs, 1/2 price screen wash, etc.etc.

I agree - could a seperate place on SCN for useful posts like this be created? Under the Off topic chat or beside the Free/Beer Money Threads? Because many of us could benefit from it.

I remember a while back a lad posted about a company that supplys Golf Clubs for testing to subscribers of thier website and in most cases when they received feedback you got to keep the club.

there certainly has been an influx in the the number of threads being deleted or sent straight to the scrappy since new moderators were appointed a while back. not that i have a problem with any of them, just perhaps a tiny bit more leniency is required

anything that helps other members is a good thing assuming the thread starter isn't profiting from it

Yep ... (please dont take that as "mod bashing"!)

I think you mean "anything that helps other members is a good thing assuming the thread starter is NOT profiting from it"

I agree - In my opinion a post that highlights a deal which would be of interest to members is a good thing so long as it's posted in the correct place and the poster has no commercial interest in promoting the goods / company.

But thats only my opinion but obviously it's up to the admins how this site is run.

I think that your final sentence is where the problem lies and separating the wheat from the chaff is difficult sometimes.

I'd like to think that we are all trying to make this forum one of the best around. However, interpretation of rules and using our 'judgement' is always tricky because nobody is ever going to agree 100%.

The question I always ask myself is 'How is this benefitting SeatCupra.net' bearing in mind we are a SEAT car forum.....that's my personal way of trying to decide whether some items should stay/go/be modified etc

Remember if you do have any queries, questions or complaints then you can always ask one of the Admins for their opinion

We are trying to help not hinder ;)

I'll re-open the thread in a moment, because technically I didn't consider it an advert. Posted in the wrong place originally, but not posted in the sense of it being an advert.

Not the fault of DPJ, so don't blame him or any other moderator it's not always easy for our mods to decide what is not ok and what is ok. So he's only acting on his interpretation of our basic instruction.

It's up to the Admins to clarify why we have to be fairly strict on unsolicited advertising.

SCN is financed only by it's advertising, we do not charge you the forum members, nor do we think you should be charged. For several reasons I'll try to explain below:

Making it a pay for club or subscription based site, means relying on people to pay up and in significant enough numbers to make it cost effective. The drawbacks of this, mean that some people end up benefiting more by the fact they pay, and it means locking out people who don't. Those that pay also want more of a say in how the place is run, and we didn't get this big by working as a committee.

We believe there is enough related business out there, such as the tuners that we can run this place for FREE. The biggest financial benefactors of SCN are it's sponsors, they get access to you lot to sell their products and even develop their products. What we charge them is a very small amount in the grand scheme of things.

If we allowed a free reign or didn't balance the level of advertisers as we do, then we would lose good sponsors and the site wouldn't survive. Because I'm certainly not paying for it out of my pocket, and as i've said a subscription model just doesn't interest us.

There is also a question of balance to consider. How many chip tuners does one site need to advertise??

How fair is it we charge a set sponsor rate but we continue to fill the forum up with bedroom chip tuners. There is a suitable limit to how much advertising one site can promote. We have to carefully consider how many advertisers we take on in a particular market.

Were a huge site, and I can understand why all these businesses are beating a path to our front door, but SCN was never about making money and never will be.

On the subject of members posting up offers they come across, that doesn't bother me so much. However there can be exceptions, though we don't mind people posting their experiences of some non sponsoring tuners. When it turns into a full blown attempt at fishing for more work and the tuner then turns up to stick his tuppence in, you'll soon find the thread will be removed. Profiteering is easy to spot, and if it's a coy attempt at plugging something for personal gain it will get nipped in the bud also.

However posting news about special offers you may of discovered on a particular subject, such as technology or anything else that doesn't directly affect the sponsors of this site. Then your free to share it in the General Topic section. We wouldn't setup yet another forum for that use, basically because it means someone has more work to do looking after it. Most of these offers are short term things anyway, so General Topic is the best place.

Ebay adverts come under the category of zero tolerance. Everyone has access to Ebay, they can search themselves quite easily they don't need people to tell them China are selling HID kits for a fiver.

I have to agree with Mark
Being a sponsor "N" all
If someone comes on and asks for a quote on a part or job to be done , we can do that
Then we get some young lad coming on and says "Go to ebay they are cheaper" then that is OK as we are payimg to sponsor this sight and then we get kicked by the bedroom bandits
We here have memebers of staff that help to monitor our section and are quite willing to help anyone we can
I have done in the past given people a bit of help that are not in our section with car troubles too
|Now do the bedroom bandits do that? or do they heklp fantastic forums like this
We may not be as cheap as some ebay people , but that is because Awesome pay staff like us to come on here to help too?
Hey I love forum work and will always be found on one of them , but sometimes it can be a bit hard to stay light hearted at times
"How much for a forum member" , heck it costs us to be a forum sponsor and then we have to discount too? Mmmmm
I hope that you all dont think I am a moaning old dimwhit , just old :) and just wanted to put my 2p worth in too
Sorry if I have rambled on :cartman:
