Can anyone give recomendations for an iPod active link to the Seat Altea Headunit.
I have an '08 Seat Altea Reference Sport 1.9 TDI, which has the aux input,
This is not any use for controlling iPod through head unit, I was mislead by my
dealer on this... If I had known I would have paid the £90 option for the armrest
dock!

From searching previous threads I believe this is pretty easy to install these
aftermarket active link cables, with the aid of a Swiss Army knife!!! I have one
and I am not scared to use it, so it will be a breeze!!!

I just want peoples opinions on cables they have purchased to help me pick the best cable
for full functionality of my iPod through the head unit, I must have track information
displayed on the headunit or there is no point. Do these cables allow you to search through
whole iPod menus, ie search through Albums, Artists & Songs or does it just allow you to
choose a playlist and scroll through it?

I am planning on discrete install in glove box, so I am just interested in the cables,
not any docking stations.

I have found two possibles, listed below, does anyone have any experience with these?
I am leaning towards the Dension Gateway, because there are plenty of them out there,
so I am assuming they work!

DICE Electronics SEAT iPod Integration Car Kit

SEAT Dension ice Link Gateway 100

Anybody have any other cables they have installed that are worthy of consideration.

Thought I would ask the experts before I commit to buying something.

Thank to anyone taking the time to read and reply.

As far as i remember - If nothing has chanced since i last looked it is not possible to get the iPod information / browse function on any seat display...
I am almost certain thats the same for most of VAG as well.

The way the official SEAT (General VAG) one works is it emulates a 6x CD Changer and grabs the first 6 play lists in order from your ipod and represents them to the head unit as "CD's"
No track information is displayed on the head unit, but your can skip tracks back an forward.
The song title info is displayed on the ipod screen.

Hope that is of some help!

Cheers

Chrisash32,

Thanks for the info, if this is the case I am a bit dissapointed. Not much point in bothering with active link cable. Be as well using the aux in. I was looking forward to scrolling through ablum and song lists from head unit. If I install it into glove box, I will kill someone or more likely myself trying to view the bloody iPod screen to see what rubbish its playing, so I don't think this will be happening.
The Dension ice Link Gateway 100 claims track listing and album & song scrolling is possible, but until I hear it from someone who has installed it I aint believing it. Looks like I will have to stick to Radio 2 for now....!!!

yeh it is a bit disappointing, hence why i have an ipod kit sat in the shed doing nothing...
Went back to my CD Changer...

I have personally tried a few ipod kits on newer VW radios and also had a few friends with different model kits as well. None of which have got the info to come onto the radio screen :-(
