Bought the Ipod link from Seat that goes in the glove box. There is a black wire that I am not sure what is for, and the kit isn't working. Does anyone know what it is for? The wire is loose and doesn't go into any of the blocks so I am presuming it is some kind of earth wire but I am no expert in it.

Basically I have plugged the blue block into the back of the radio, into this plugged the adapter thing, then into this the lead that goes into the glovebox. The black wire comes from the blue block into nothing.

Just had a look on the Dension website and it says the black wire needs to be grounded to the chassis of the radio. Where can I do this?`

If you've not already dont it by now...

If you've got the standard Alana headunit, there's a small screw on the back near the locating rubber thingy. Just take that out and wrap the wire around it and screw it back in. Thats what I did anyhow.

Yeah, I got it all sorted. Pics wise there is nothing really to see. I haven't put mine in the glovebox though, its in the little drop down drawer by the drivers knee, nice Ipod sized holder it is and nicely hidden.

Taken with my phone camera in the sun, so sorry about the quality!
Ignore all the wires in the footwell - nothing to do with the ipod install :)

Mine's the icelink plus from dension (£99) and it's an ipod mini. You can control it through the stereo buttons and it charges etc.

i got the xcarlink kit off ebay. cost me just over 50 quid. VW one works fine, the Seat ones generally sell for more :p

similar thing to the Dension kit, and the Seat one is the same as that with slight difference in software i believe - Seat logo on the ipod for example.

Basically u get a little box - the brain, a blue ISO connector to plug into the cd changer port, an earth wire. and the other end has 2 cables - ipod dock lead and a normal 3.5mm plug. i hid the whole between the glove box and stereo, except for the ipod lead which feeds into the glovebox. connect ipod (60gb 5th gen) and it sits in the little pocket thing inside the glovebox lid.

button 1 on stereo allows for control through ipod OR stereo - plays whatever u set the ipod playing. and then buttons 2-6 play the first 5 playlists, which i need to set up still to be more useful.

works a treat tho.
