They used to be a Seat dealer for ten years so I think i'd trust their judgement.
To carry out a head gasket change you would be looking at a maximum of £428.65 all inclusive, that would be using genuine parts and also include a coolant and oil & filter change.
If the head gasket appears to be okay upon removal I would recommend the cylinder head is sent for specialist testing to make sure it is okay.
If it's then deemed unusable I would look into getting a good aftermarket alternative (I've priced up a genuine part and the bare head alone comes in at £876.67 + VAT)
I think buying a new head would be uneconomical cosidering the engine has already done 107k but if it was damaged and I got hold of a new/ebay head then maybe it's a good price?
I just hope block cracks are rare as this would completely write off the engine wouldn't it?
