Are you in the trade? Just from my experience those labour rates are miles off. That's what they charge joe public, but insurance companies will not pay anymore than £35/hr iirc. It used to be £22 back in 2007

yes in the trade but restore campers now havent done accident repairs in a while

and yes that is the price that would charge jo public if u worked in a approved garage

insurance aint gonna tell you what discount they get

the insurance can get a price of £35 a hour because they say to the repairer that we can get u £3 million worth of work so we want that price

so wondering what position i'll be in if they do write it off they have to get me back on the road with the same car? from what ive read they carnet leave me in any worse state than i was before the accident so basically i have to be able to afford another LCR in the same condition same millage....

looks like a write off to me sadly.

paint, panels, filler neck, filler flap, all new trim and badges on painted area's, rear light not to mention all the labour time involved with the strip down/rebuild

thats going to cost loads through insurance!

for a car that can be bought for £3-3500 depending on mileage its not going to take that much to make it a write off sadly.

I've just got my LCR back from a main dealer body shop it had 2 new passenger doors and the whole side painted and that didn't get wrote off! It's getting very rare that they'll write them off now I work in the trade and it's surprising what gets done!

Yeah I used to work In a approved workshop, hence knowing they get a bloody good discount on labour rates lol.

As the previous post suggests, all to do with how much the car is worth and cost of repair. If it costs a certain percentage of the car's value to repair then the insurer may not repair but write off.

However, not all is lost. I they write off, some insurance companies (or brokers) can return the car to you for salvage value which they'll minus from your overall cheque. Then go to a local repairer and ask them to repair (it'll be cheaper if you went to some non vat garage). The downside is that it'll be recorded as write off on the hpi but atleast you have the peace of mind of having a car you've spent lots of money on. Salvage value is between 10-20% of the car market value. Repair for few hundred quid. You'll still have some coin left :)

My friend did this long time ago and ran the car to the ground.

Hope the above makes sense.

no they dont have to get u on the road in the same car they will give u a amount of the cars market value at this moment in time! now to be cleaver i take it its on u drive?

give it a good clean polish the life out of it before the assessor comes. y might u ask its damaged :p

because its your pride and joy and a good example stress this to the assessor he is the one that will value your car for example

i had a black pug 306 gti6 was a good clean example assesor came out and seen car he spoke to me a week later and offered me £900 as thats about what some where on autotrader i said are any black and in as good condition as mine

no he said i told him black in a gti6 is a rare colour because all the rallye versions where black and white said i wasnt happy and got £1400 for car happy times :p

might not always work but worth a shot personally get the car back and have it repaired yourself and u prob end up with some notes in your pocket for mods

my old man bought a rover 620t written off for peanuts , had full leather low milage etc
only thing wrong was a peice of bare metal showing on the bodywork ( approx size of a fist )
had it painted for peanuts gave it to my grampa to drive around in

then someone crashed into my mk5 3dr fiesta whole side of car smashed in they gave me the option to repair or write off , as it was exactly half the value i bought it for (£6k ) so 3k bill to put right with ford

but if they do write that off , ide barter with the value and as stated give it a nice clean and polish before they inspect

just an update today found out its going to be repaired, costing £2500 and going to take 25 hours apparently.. so happy days getting a mint car back as the panel where it happend was a massive scratch....

my quote on page 1 wasnt far off then :p think me should apply for a estimator job lol glad your car aint written off dude

theres again alot of mis information in this thread,

lets firstly address the 'insurance garages are rip offs'

this is not the case, years ago an industry standard was set up, two main bodies emerged as thatchem(who cerify alarms) and glassmatix.

both of these are estimating systems used so that everyone gets the same times on a job, be it the engineer or the bodyshop, these times are dirved from thachem getting a new car and timing a technician on how long it takes to remove the panel, this is then computerised so the only thing that can be different are labour rates and opinion times for repairs.

onto labour rates,
while bmw get away with charging their customer £100 and hour, they dont with the insurance company. there are two types of bodyshops approved and non approved,

approvalship has NOTHING to do with quality of repair, while ins companies may lead you to think that, it is sole cost driven,

approved shops have what is called a service level agreement were they have to abide by a contract of:

supplying the customer with a free corutesy car
work on a labour rate between £22-25 per
give 10% discount on paint and materials
give 5-10% discount on parts
some have to give overall invoice discounts too
free recovery and storage.

non approved repairers:
usually work between £25-35 per hour
and give away 5% on parts and labour,
still have to provide a free courtesy car.

onto your leon,

as stated it needs a new quarter and it is repairable

jake

so it took a month to do and i went through 2 courtesy cars but had the car back a couple days ago very pleased with the work

Before

After

car

Oh and it cost over 8k in repair and courtesy car work that one out lol..... not complaining tho!!
