I just fitted an isofix seat and I'm just checking (i have red through the instuctions but just making sure). The seat cn actally work without the isofix base just using the seatbelt. What I wondering if I'm using the isofix base do I still need to use the seat belt as well?

the standard leon seats arnt isofix iirc
so i would asume the belt still needs to be used to hold it in place.

Yes I'm talking about a child seat. I do have isofix rear seat standard, every car by law has them after a certain age I'm sure. I was just wanting to know if the isofix base is getting used the do I still use the seat belt as well?

Obviously the baby seat (assuming a britax).
The Isofix system is great but not standard in all cars as yet (some recent mercs and Jags don't have them)
Now on the todler seat and is so easy to fit, the SEAT (made by britax) one also looks good in red and silver/grey and was cheaper than the britax one when I got it last year.
Can't see point in saveing a couple of £ and risking the seat not being in right and thus your kids health.
Why don't more manufacturers use the Isofix system (I know cost of design/testing etc.)

You should find most mainstream manufacturers cars from the last few years fitted with ISOFix now, at least on the back seat. Some won't have the top tether anchorage (incl. the Leon 1) so you rely on the bottom 2 anchorages (only an issue with forward facing seats for older children)
The main problem which has delayed ISOFix is that manufacturers started fitting it before the standard had been completed in Geneva, when it was completed and agreed it only applied to UN-ECE approvals which are not necessarily the same as those used for EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval.
Until the texts are aligned (they may have been by now) the manufacturer can choose whether to use the UN-ECE text including ISOFix or the ECWVTA text which doesn't require it.
You should never use ISOFix and the adult belt together on a child seat - the anchorage locations can be quite different between the 2 on different vehicles.
