also i have my ar running smoothly at 1000 RPM jus when you take foot off gas it drops to arround 800 with air box off, but with it on it will cut down like 200 rpm then catch some air then hit 500 then cut out.

to get this far i have to tighten up any loose earths or power leads and then change sparks, rotery arm and dizzy cap. (purley because my stepdad rested his arm on it and snapped it off while car was running so got a nastly shock lol)

been out this arvo, trying to get the car started, nowt.. got the usual WD type stuff sprayed liberally, , still no.. its trying its damndest to start bless it, but no.. at that, one of my neighbours came out to his car to pump up a slow puncture, whilst doing that we were talking and I tried it again, he noticed the middle lead on the Dizzy was sparking out, so would hazard a guess its got a crack in as its as tight as it can be pushed on etc.
he then jumped in my car to try turning it over to allow me to see the 'escaping' spark.
looks like a case of damp getting in there (at the very least)
so a trip to GSF methinks in the morning to pick up a new set etc

would be cracking ( excuse the really bad pun) if thats all it is/was... never get the problem in summer.. only when it gets damper.. so it stands a pretty good chance its something daft...
:D

had a fault with one of these a while ago took a while to find the problem turned out to be that the crank sensor was o.k but the wiring to it had burnt for some reason replaced it and was all ok.

YAYY!!! seems like ( fingers crossed) a bit of a result! (cheers Flapper ;) )
changed rotor even though old one seemed ok (new one had more meat on ) but was getting a lost spark coming from the king(?) lead. Swapped all over one by one for new leads and fired the car 1st time every time as i swapped each one out . all leads looked in good nick , all connections still shiney and good apart from the one that was sparking . signs of corrosion on it so would explain why I get this problem in the damp weather but its fine all summer long .:ban:

took the car for a blat along the m5 only one junction, then back up along a few sets of lights, busy junctions etc so as to slow right down/stop let revs die down etc .. seems to be burbling along quite happily :D

*mental note ... must take car on little run at least once every couple of days *

They love a good blast, did an aiport run last weekend and blew out some cobwebs on the way home, got the oil up to 100 and water temp where it should be (dunno why my 8v never seems to get hot).

Result its growling and pulling like a train!!! :D

Im terrible for it, tbh.. I drive the van five or six days a week, if the mk2's not starting I'll just jump in the Mk4 so the 2 tends to sit neglected at times just making the issue worse as its left longer and longer between drives.

No, reason why it happens in the damp is 'cos the lead was FUBAR'd. allowing water ingress which manifested itself as a wayward spark [/Pedant]

gotta very similar problem to this Brummy, had to get towed last night by my dad in the p**sing rain...not the most fun ona sat night lol.

But I'm hoping you've solved my problem for me,so I'm gunna get a new rotery arm and leads tomorrow and see if it helps.

Will getting "mega leads" be any different/better than standard jobbies?

Best place to get both?Halfrauds?

get OE replacements from GSF or ECP

they won't be cheap, but they will be right

and don't take the hype related to 'performance' leads

Senconding what m0rk says.. i got the *generic* replacements.. cost me £35 all in for the leads and rotor, but if it is the end to the problem it will be the wisest £35 ive spent in a long while.

I actually left the car overnight, then took a little run up to the shops earlier, started on first turn of the key.

GSF
**part no's
92218 for the rotor £3.95

92624 for the leads £26.50

plus the vat ;)

and no, you shouldnt need to order them in.. i didnt ,'generic' stock for veedubs, so plenty in stock
:D

well glad ya got it sorted mate :) .I really hope its gunna be the same case for me,but from the sounds of your symptoms I reckon so,was doing my nut trying to figure out what was wrong with it!!So I think you've done me a big favor without even knowing it lol

You get your bits from GSF Brummy?
