Just got my 99 Cordoba SX 2.0l 16 valve from the MOT re-test and i have a nice piece of green paper in my hand.
All it needed was top mounts, Front number plate due to peeling and tyres.
Due to time/work imbalance I got the garage to do the top mounts and they did it for a very good price but i have picked up a few niggles in the 5 mile journey to and thro.
When i dropped it off i noticed some fluid on the ground and thought to myself, some poor soul has a leak, then when i cheecked realised it was coming from my PAS pump and thought, Bugger! It wasnt leaking when it was tested and there isnt any signs of fluid on my driveway but i guess they only re-test the faults they find on the day, hence my pass.
I have a couple of VAG pumps here but they are different, can anyone tell me what cars these were fitted to and aid my search?
Ideally id like to buy new, but the money situation isnt great!
Also, filling up with fuel i noticed with the engine off the drivers side headlamp and rear tail light were out, when the engines running the headlight comes on but not the tail light. Ive tried a new bulb but it still doesnt work and checked the fuses and all is fine, what am i looking for? They were obviously working at the time of test. I need these issues sorted soon as i have to tax and insure the beast before i can sell my old Polo, all this before i start to look into the idling issue and tidy it up.
All help gratefully recieved, i need my car to get my kids to school so they dont have to drive around in old heaps when they grow up! I also need my car for work.

been thinking about yours last night as i wasn't sure what way it was/was not working so bear with me as the gti twin lamps do not work in a simple way

with nothing running turn on the sidelights (1st) on the inner lamps (round) illuminate on their own along with the rear's

with the ignition on the outer lamp's (H1 square) glow 1/4 power through a resistor hidden in the NS inner wing - look behind the battery and follow the 2 yellow wires

low beam on (2) the outer lamp's (H1 square) fill up full power

high beam (blue logo) inner lamp's (H1 round) light up full power

there has been some discussion as to wether some model's illuminate all 4 on high beam or not and i think it's confused with flash as that will illuminate the inner's only if no light's are present but all 4 when light's are on and throw in the various style's and conversions etc you can see it's not an easy one to figure out :):)

start with a logical test and a pad and mark what's doing what and when and see if there is any commonality and of course note any recent change bulb swap etc etc

These gti 16v lights seem different all the time! my h1 dont light up at all until the car is started and Full/High Beam lights up all four only on flash, when i click it in only the 2 inners light up!

Sorted my lights, good old insomnia has saved the day!
Fl@pper suggested I take a closer look at my light switch so I popped it out and took it apart and found loads of grease everywhere so I wiped it off, cleaned up the contacts, bent a few to make sure I was getting a good connection and voila! all my exterior and dash lights are now working.
Anyone got a PAS pump for an ABF!?
