iirc k04-001 is only good for an extra 10bhp or so over a k03s and reliabilty has been questioned.

If it is a 001 then this seems like a better deal:

oh man, dont be saying that, I have just spent £800 on this, and you are saying it's unreliable and wont offer much power over my standard k03s:cry:

although can I ask where you heard that is was unreliable and it only offering up an extra 10bhp?

I trust Marks advice, and I am sure it will offer up a lot more power and be perfectly reliable:D

Search for k04-001 and there is afew threads on it from what i remember

there seems a lot of mixed opinions about this

from what others have said, this is very similar to the AM04 (although no longer in production due to AM Motorsport going under) and the JBS04

from reading some information a while back, I recall the AM04 making about 280bhp in its early production stages and still more potential.....

I don't know if Mark from BD MS can clear this up, or indeed quote some actually performance figures from this

I cant actually find any results from this K03 hybrid, in terms of anyone done it on here. Seems a lot of people talking about it, but unsure about it, and no decision was ever made for anyone to try one out....until now (ME). Lets hope (for my sake and the cost of this) that it does offer up what I have been informed it will do, and be a nice choice or a half way house in terms of power between the k03s and going BT
 
to be honest alot of the posts are from 2005 so i would like to think if there was any early problems with the k04-001 they have all been sorted as they are still available

if as mark says the k04-001 is slighty larger than the ko3 you might find the unit he supplys is a k04-001 with improved internals which are able to cope with higher bhp if that makes sence
 
A k03S isnt the same as a K04-1.

The K03S is the turbo that is fitted to the 180BHP Leon Cupra, Golf and TT 180.

The K04-1 is a completely different housing and uses the K04 internals.

The reason it is reffered to as a K03 to K04 upgrade is that it connects in the same way as the original K03 it is replacing.

It is all confusing and I take responsibility for not explaning it very well on the website. We are working on this.

If you have a Leon, Ibiza, Golf or TT with a 1.8T engine with a K03 turbo as standard you have 2 straight forward upgrade options.

Ko3S £399 plus VAT.

K03 to K04 upgrade (sometimes called K04-1 which is confusing) £699 plus VAT.

Both turbos are brand new and in stock available for next working day delivery.

The other turbo which is popular is our K04 hybrid. This is designed for use on the Leon Cupra R, S3, TT 225 which use the K04 as standard. This turbo has uprated internals. It is £695 plus VAT with a £200 plus VAT surcharge for an old K04 unit in usable condition.

Have I made it clearer or more complicated?

k04-001 giving 280bhp! Good luck! Better off getting a used k03s and spending the saved £600 on other mods.

For £1000 you can get a real hybrid k03 which is a k03 that has been milled out and had a clipped ko4 compressor wheel and uprated bearings. A k04-001 is not a hybrid turbo. Its a standard turbo from Borg Warner and was used instead of the early k03s I believe. Hybrid would entail modifying an turbo from the factory spec. You have to ask yourself why they changed to k03s instead of k04-001? Especially when the k04-001 is doube the money!

I am up in London tomorrow, but hopefully when I am in the office on Wednesday, the turbo will arrive and will get a few pics of it from my desk!

if I get 270bhp from the unit, then actually I will be happy with this, anymore is a bonus

I initially thought I would get 280-300....but perhaps this is not realistic seeing as the K04 hybrid is pushed to get 300....
