hi all, ive just bought a turbo for to upgrade my k03 on my 1.8t golf.
i thought it is a k04-001 which is a straight swap.
but numbers on tag are:

K04-0402

220269001

KKK

it has 8 fins on inlet compressor. and exhaust flange is on bottom so it would fit my golf like a 001 would.

does anyone know whats its off or the spec etc

it was advertised as cupra r turbo?
thanks

ok i see.. he said it was a k04 from cupra r.

i thought the only k04's with bottom exhaust flanges were the 001's?

is the exhaust flange not on bottom then on cupra r?
sorry i only know about golfs..lol

What car is the ko4-001 found on? It's not the 225 Cupra R which I think his K04-0402 is from and requires all those parts..

A few quotes from Keith@APR fron the thread I posted earlyer in this thread.

There are 3 oem turbocharges used on the transversal 1.8T 20v VAG gasoline engine:

Early 150 hp 1.8T's = ko3
Late 150 hp and all 180 hp 1.8T's = ko3s
All 225hp 1.8T's = ko4-020

The ko4-001 was only sold as an aftermarket upgrade to the transverse 1.8T.

One of the wheels is slightly smaller than a ko3s but the overall compressor map shows that the ko4-001 should and does deliver more power at all rpm points above 2000.

A ko4-001 is an upgraded turbo from a ko3s that is overall slightly larger. We typically find the opportunity for about 30hp and 40lb ft of torque over a ko3s at remapped levels of modification.

The ko4-001 was developed by Borg Warner to be a direct ko3 performance replacement turbo and was sold in their Airwerks line of performance turbochargers for transverse 150-180hp 1.8T engines.

Your best opportunity is for a proper ko4 remap which typically includes a four bar fuel pressure regulator to be able to supply the additional fuel that the ko4 requires.

Most remaps will take you from 18 psi with a remapped ko3s to 20-22 psi on the ko4. The ko4 will hold boost pressure longer in the power band and taper to only 14 psi by redline where typically the ko3s will fall to 10-12 psi at redline.

Here is some more info on what parts are typically included in a ko4-001 turbo upgrade kit:

Now that you already have the turbo, you'll need that 4 bar fpr and a proper ko4 remap. You can get both of those here:
