Kenwood DNX521DAB

Hi

I've just moved from a mk5 gti to a 09 leon fr 170 already seeing big savings in fuel, I'm missing sat nav and a good head unit.

So I'm looking at this kenwood unit are they any good?
Also do they need coding in ? If so does anybody have the details
Does the navigation come up on the mfd?

Great unit, don't know about the mfd but sure someone in here will be able to tell you. Even if it doesn't if still go for it. I've got the dnx520vbt and can't fault it.

I'm pretty sure that the actual kenwood website says it is not compatible with the cars mfd.

It's not.. I had the dnx521 and sold it within 2 weeks. Didn't like how it wasn't compatible with Bluetooth and mdf and made £50 profit on it too haha!

Mine works with the steering wheel controls. And the unit has Bluetooth so you can sink it to your phone. Not too sure why everyone gets so caught up withal this Mfd stuff. Personally I'd much rather have a decent head unit that sound great. Any way I always thought the kenwoods were an upgrade option from dealer anyhow!

It's a dealer fit option rather than a factory fit option, but yeah they sell it £995 from dealers fitted.

I prefer the standard Bluetooth I already had.. Much better reception and quality of sound compared to the kenwood head unit!

gees i would rather have alpine if sound quality is needed, alpine then pioneer then kenwood then sony.

The point of the kenwood is that its an 'all in one' unit

Everything is controlled from the stereo screen, phone/cd/dvd/nav etc

the volume control buttons will still work, but the buttons on the right wont, unless you do some additional coding via vagcom.
as has been mentioned these were an upgrade dealer option

Yes they do. My mute button and track skip buttons still worrk

Does this fit the k1? Is it just this sterio what is compatable, or any Kenwood! Never floated my boat an after market sterio, but I may be getting the bug for one!!!

Yep it will, you cant really tell its aftermarket though!

Should be afew cheap ones about now, well worth it. I paid 500 over 2 years ago

The 520 is a great unit.

Iv never felt the need to change it, the only advantages of the 521DAB is obviously DAB, lane assistance on the sat nav, and newer user interface.
