Okay i know there are loads of threads on here but i have just spent the last 3 hours going through them and still cant find the definitive answer.

Just picked up my new runaround 2004 leon tdi, it came with 2 keys both the round type one without remote and the other with 2 button remote (not flip kind) hella433mhz

just put a new battery in the remote one and synched it with the car today however it is temprimental and dosnt always lock or unlock unless you are stood right next to the car even then it is sometimes still iffy, am i right in guessing that the fob is dieing???????

next question can i upgrade to a 2 button flip key, if so how do i find out what code number i need to order????
im guessing that the cheapest way of sorting out the transponder is to swap it over from the old key to the new flip kind???

cheers

first point of call mate, check the sensor in the middle of the dash on top, make sure the contacts are ok, as they can detariorate, second, it could easy be the fob packing up, them hella things dont last as long. and yes mate, you can get the flip type. i have a 2001 model, gave my chassis number to a key specialest, and came back with my car being a 2002 model, and of what type i needed.

cost 40 for the key, and had to get it cut. i just used the chip from my original key, as programing will cost the most. but depends where you go

the part im on about sits on top of the dash, but in the centre
look on top, there will be in airvent, in the centre theres the sensor

Yeah been said on here that the one on top of the dash is the sunlight sensor.
The ones around the climate control are temperature sensors.

Who knows lol

what does the car need a sun sensor for
i took mine off, and its an infared sensor
ive worked on pugs, and other cars, and this type has always been a fob sensor

i'll try it out and get back.

When you say check the contacts, do you mean the multiplug that connects it to the loom??
And is it easily removable from above without taking the dash out??

Ahem.

The item in the middle of the windscreen vent is a sunlight sensor, part of the climate control system.

It should not be too difficult to understand that a sunlight sensor *is* an infrared sensor.

A moments thought ought to tell you why a climate control system needs a sunlight sensor.

More importantly, a cursory inspection of the remote central locking fob will show that it is a radio transmitter. An infrared receiver will not help you get a signal from one of those.

I got a second hand fob of eBay for £6, programmed it in and works a treat now, thanks for pointers. Might look at getting that flip key sorted out
