Knocking noise in the boot

Iv had a slight knocking noise in the boot it only seems to happen when going over un level ground for example speed bumps I can't hear it. Rough uneven surface and I can hear it as the car wobbles from side to side.

Iv checked the alloy in the boot and I'm sure it's not that as iv got foam pads under it.

Any ideas what it could be?

Also there's a noise that seems to be coming from the glove box or behind the dash. It's like a squirrelling sorta noise hard to describe it really. Only seems to be at certain frequency from the engine vibration. So when it's in gear but rolling with no accelerator it does it.

Seat Ibiza cupra TDI with 34k miles 07 plate

Cheers Craig.

Seconded for exhaust heatshield, just had it on mine, trim clips holding it on had corroded and fallen off.

I'll have a look at this when I get the chance. I'm glad other people have experienced the glove box noise. Drives me mad. Would love to know what it is.

Iv had a good look under my car and it's all spotless. The heat shield is spot on and everything is tight.

I'm beginning to think its the drop links I couldn't push them hard enough to knock but I had noticed as soon as the front wheels hit a bump the clunk noise happens.

The glove box noise as well is when my revs are around 1100 to 1500 in gear driving. Anything above 1500 and it's disappears.

Any ideas?

Gear linkage? Loose item behind dash?

Try jamming some paper or a rag in the glove box bit where the rubber stops are. It doesnt sit tight enough and just rattles. Long term is to get some sticky back foam to run round the inside of the glovebox to make it a tighter fit.

Might not be glovebox though. I've kinda stopped listening to rattles now

It's the exhaust knocking on the rear axle

The exhaust is solid doesn't hardly move...

this means im going to have another check to see if the axle actually moves up enough to bang off it. But surely if it was that then it would do it when i go over speed bumps straight?

it only happens if i go over a speed bump on an angle or if one wheel on the front travels into a ditch or hits a bump.

iv held the glove box in when it happens and it doesn't do anything to the noise. Completely clueless to what that is.

Hmmm. Could be flywheel related. No idea tbh. Rattles are bitch.

My 1.4 ibiza had a knocking from the rear boot area. Turned out the rear shock mounts were faulty.

i am looking at replacing them they come to £27 for the pair so im considering it. shouldnt be to hard of a job to sort out. just dont want to replace unless i can sort of test it is that. So i think the first port of call will be the front anti roll bar drop links.

certainly sounds like its coming from the rear though :S

The glovebox noise could be the fan maybe? Not sure on the seat but my old saab and most cars the air intake to the fans is there and of the seal is broke it whistles and makes a slight noise, as for the rear noise pretty sure it yours shock abs

:)

Chances are:
Heat shielding
Top mounts on suspension
Wheel bearings
Arb bushes
Jack or tools in back
Boot lid rubbers
Exhaust clamp on the joiner.

What are the shock ABS? do you mean shock absorbers? Bit hard to just test them lol.

checked the fan. Turned that off and it still happens for the glove box.

Heat shielding is solid
Pretty sure its nothing in the back thats causing it iv had it empty
exhaust is solid as well

The boot lid rubbers could be a possibility as when i left the boot slightly open on the latch and drove it sounded identical but they do seem alright

Drop links sorted it by the sounds of it. But iv noticed that the inside of both tyres are very worn on the front. One of them is so worn it's down to chords! Tracking?
