Evening!
I've got a very metallic sounding click / knock when I'm going slow and at full lock.
I had some of those shims fitted to the subframe as I've read all over the shop that this is a common problem. I had them fitted by a mechanic who used this video for a how to: https://youtu.be/wR4-apEnWqE
While I'm still getting a knock it sounds a lot different now, it was a low pitched clunk but now it's more high pitched click. I've had all the suspension checked over at the same time and he said it's all in very good condition so at a loss as to what this could be.
Any gems of wisdom out there for me to try?
Cheers!!

Sounds like possibly a broken spring or maybe a worn top mount. If you can see the spring and the are ok I think a top mount can wait a bit. Obviously up to you tho.

Just a suggestion, by no means correct!

Adding spacers to fix it sounds more like a fudge than a fix. I'd look to replace the bolts with OEM kit and re-torque to factory. If that is the issue... if it's only knocking on full lock, it could be a cv or a bush worn.

As far as I'm aware it's not a fudge I did a fair bit of digging and research on it and adding these spacers to the subframe is apparently a fix to the subframe knock which is, after seeing a lot of articles on it, fairly common for this model, I didn't just fit spacers but also replaced the bolts with new OEM ones. The mechanic checked all the front suspension over so doesn't seem to be a problem with the cv joints and / or bushes

I'm open to any suggestions, the mechanic checked the springs and said they were in good condition. I could do to check the top mounts. The car has done over 190k so it's certainly "well used"

Id also suggest replacing top mounts. Im doing mine tomorrow if i can blag the afternoon off work. I did search for powerflex replacements but couldn't find them so sticking to oem.

Unfortunately I'm not savy or equipped enough to do this myself , is there a means way to test this before asking the garage to replace them?

If the noise changed after disturbing some of the subframe bolts then have the rest of the subframe bolts been checked for tightness?

Theres a similar issue over on the tt forum, topic 1235169 refers. Similar issue to yours but turned out to be a gearbox mount!

There were 4 bolts that were slackened off, 2 of which were replaced and all 4 were re-torqued. Perhaps I will get it in and check the rest of them and also see if the top mounts need replacing at the same time!

changed my front nearside top mount today and it was totally mullered. Bearings had completely seperated from the unit.

Ive had the similar clunking/knock that you described in your first post. It progressively got worse and to diagnose it i put the car on a ramp while on full lock and as you manually turn the front wheel to the right you would see the springs juddering as they would not be turning smoothly due to the bearings being shot. Hope this helps ive already had 4 beers
