Well after many threads about my knocking issue on here & after recieving loads off advise ive now got a knock free front end :)

After several visits to garages to get it checked with no answers, slowly getting to my end wits with it, i went to my last resort today a very reputable garage who i know aint cheap (but surprisingly they did it quite cheap) anyway after looking & i mean looking feeling pricing it with bars etc etc they were at a loss just like any other garage, anyway took it for a drive (let the mechanic drive) i sat in passenger seat so he can feel & hear what i do, anyway not even 10seconds into driving he turns to me & says theres something defo there like you say, went for a good 10mins drive, got back & back on the ramps it went, he suspected Anti Roll Bar, so he gave them a damn good going over & he found the problem, he even got me to hold the anti roll bar well he moved it & yeah i clearly felt the movement that shouldnt be there :)

£60 & new D Link bushes later im a happy chap with a knock free mk4 Ibiza front end :)

For future I can recommend a superb place in Stoke thats decently priced and the work is top notch. The head guys an ex-VW tech and he knows his stuff. :)

Great that you found the problem..

You say that you now have a knock free Ibiza front, I didn't think there was such a thing..

So what do you think of the ride, does it crach and thump over uneven roads and pot holes ?

There is a general feeling with Mk4 owners, that even with the standard suspension in good condition with no knackered bushes etc that it is still a very poor ride.

I started a thread a while ago about it.

Would be really interested in your views ?

Thanks.

Its always been knock free up untill 5months ago, replaced droplinks, like i said just had the D link bushes done, he also checked every nut was tight ;) (there were a few he said were a slight bit loose) but all is good now & im 100% serious its now 100% knock free over any thing in the road

Next jon is sort the rattle/knock through my steering wheel on full lock

As for the ride its now back to how it use be, love it :)

i have this knocking noise, its only when im turning slowly, near enough full lock, you reckon its the arb's?

No, as mines still there & ive had mine done, its something to do with the actual steering colum bushes, not a cheap job eitha apparently, but i will be saving to get it done ;)

Agreed, I have been advised that there is some wear to my steering rack bushes that could be causing the knocking on my front end. Any idea of cost?

Cost wise im not to sure?? all i know is ive been told its not a cheap job to do :( i can live with mine as its the only remaining knock on my car now & thats only when im full lock on an uneven road (which is very rare)

Well ive fallen back in love with driving my car again :)

Its great not hearing/feeling knocks etc etc, its smooth again & not only that it feels better in the corners & the front end seriously feels alot stiffer now to the new droplinks & D Link bushes in the Anti Roll bars :)

god where do you llive, i need to move there. pretty much every road im on is sh*t!

Took a whole hour after reading this blog to replace both bushes. you need a 13mm long socket and a 13mm ring spanner. No major problems with the nearside but you need to jack up the offside carefully to expose the bottom bolt. Easy for a competent amateur fitter/mechanic. Now Knock Free for the first time since i bought the car. Remember to put some copper grease in the bush before fitting it to avoid squeaky bushes. HAPPY TIMES!!

I've got a pir of droplinks in the garage waiting for me to have a free hour! That should cure my knock, if not it will be ARB bushes, and deciding whether poly bushes are worth the extra.

Ive got a rattle now, only just cured the last one which was a loose bolt on the steering column/rack and had to have the subframe taken off to access it!

I've got the same knock noise coming from the left hand side, i've checked everything and my mechanic has checked everything too, cannot seem to find any bushes that seem worn, for a peace of mind i've bought complete new front end bushes inc roll bar and going to change all of them, I hope it eliminates this noise.

I figured my knock was droplinks anyway, but i only confirmed it when I had the car up on a 2 post lift and hung off the arb with a 3ft pry bar! The tiniest bit of movement translates into a clunk so bad it sounds like something's fallen off.
