Hi,

Problem has shown itself this morning on way to work, vibration started about 2mile into journey.

While applying power, no knocking, while braking, no knocking, only when cruising and lifting off power. Have problems with steering arms and a warped rear disk, this sounds like it is from the front and shows a slight vibration in the wheel. No vibrations through any pedals, so can nearly rule out flywheel, gearbox etc. It sounds like a stone or something stuck in the wheel getting more frequent with higher speed.

anyone any ideas?:(

Theory's so far: Steering rods (track rods), these have had a bit of play for a while, parts ordered for these. CV joint (should knock on cornering not stright driving also), brake pads, discs and/or calipers, springs, shocks, ball joint.......

I got knocking from my front suspension dampers when I put the Eibach Springs on. when my dampers were extended there was a load of free play, which made itself aware when going over speed bumps and small pot holes. I replaced the shocks and the top bearings (no rubber strut mounts on the Leon/Altea/Toledo now) and all is well. Only problem is I have the standard springs! saving up for Pro dampers and doing the lot together.

Simon, I could see if it was only potholes etc, but this is under no-load driving i.e. no braking and no acceleration, just steady driving in all gears and no gear selected....

Asked David for price on steering arms and ends, was near £80, sourced locally for £30, so these need replacing, could it be these being looser and knockin/vibrating under no-load?

Fixed - 3 loose wheel nuts, couldnt see this from looking or pulling wheel side to side, got a workmate to wiggle steering and saw wheel move slightly, knocking gone. thought it something more sinister with steering rods being a bit duff..
