I am about to purchase a spring/shocks kit for my Toledo 1.8 20vt, which currently handles like a boat. My budget is £300 max so leaves a choice of the Koni or Apex set-up. I dont want to go any lower than 35mm all round so which kit would you people recommend please ?

Both the Apex and Koni STR.T kit are good options and excellent value for money but they are some of the firmer options available.

As mentioned the AP kit is also a good option and a little more comfortable.

If I can be any help with more info or prices please let me know.

I have the Koni kit -35mm and find it really refined compared to stock LCR suspension. Not too hard by any means, even for my ancient bones :)
Really good value bought from Damian too

Well....having replaced the front discs/pads earlier,i thought i would take a look at the clearance between the top of the driveshaft and underside of the anti-roll bar.
There is approx 45mm and that is with the car in the rest position,so i dont see how i can use ANY of the lowering kits mentioned above...back to the drawing board i think...

I wonder if it is safe to run without the rollbar fitted if i do go ahead and, worse case scenario, the driveshaft DOES catch ?

Some people do but I wouldn't recommend it.
Can't see why you couldn't run a 30-35mm drop without problems though, plenty of people do and I wouldnt see as a Toledo would be any different

paulos44: the AP kit looks good on the paper but some ppl here or on the other forums report their car has nose up after they fit it which is the worst possible look :-/ Im also trying to find some mid range solution (300-350€) for my 1M TopSport with a front of the car being lil bit lower than the rear. It seems I will end up buying Eibach Pro-Kit as I cant find any other proven solution

Well, i take delivery of the AP set-up tomorrow after a quick chat with Damian from DPM. The deciding factor was that he said this kit is slightly softer than the Koni/Apex but will still be far better than whats currently on my Toledo.
I have also ordered a full set of top mounts/bearings as i thought if i am only doing this the once,i might as well do it right. I am just undecided as to whether to fit all the bits myself as i have never had much to do with suspension other than replacing the odd ball joint. Will i need a spring compressor, for instance ?

You won't need spring compressors to assemble (well I didnt) but you will need them to disassemble the original struts for the plates that fit atop the spring.

I'll watch this with interest as I have had this kit fitted recently. As mentioned my car is sitting 'nose' up slightly. Please let us know op how you get on.

I recently fitted the Koni kit and mine is sitting fine. Certainly how I wanted it anyway

Well.....having seen a decent looking pair of spring compressors for £18 at Screwfix, i am tempted to fit the parts myself, not only to save some dosh but also because of the fact that i enjoy working on my car.
Is there a "how to" guide anywhere online does anyone know ?

Found the first problem already.Looking at the very top of the front strut from under the bonnet, there is a steel cap held on by the nut at the top of the strut. This must need to be removed before the whole assembly can be pulled downwards as the steel cap is a larger diameter than the hole in the bodywork. I cant understand how you can undo the top nut AND hold the strut shaft by the female hex.......7mm by the way.....at the same time. The top nut needs a socket due to limited space.

You need a pass through ratchet and socket that you put your Allen key through while undoing/doing up the lock nut

@Bouncerbeater: That drop from Koni kit seems perfect to me ! Really like it. What is your opinion on the kit overall ? I suppose its the STR.T kit right ? I also wonder if it would look the same on my 1M TopSport
