LCR advice needed

ok guys hope you can help, I think I poste a link of a video on you tube of a lcr making a engine noise after a cambelt change which is the same noise mine is making, ive been looking at the paper work that I got when I bought the car and found it has had 2 cambelt changes 1 in 2015 and another in 2016 just before I bought the car, I have been given 2 quotes to replace the cambelt but isn't really guaranteed to get rid of that stupid noise, the 1st quote was £600 and the other was nearly £900 using genuine parts and these were just estimates, if it needs doing I don't mind but I would rather spend that kind of money on something that really needs doing ie clutch, changing cam followers or something that is more detrimental to the car. what would you do?

That seems super expensive for a cambelt change, I don't know if petrol engines are more difficult than Diesels but the most I have paid is £400 parts and labour 10 years ago, latest was £300 all in and they both include a new water pump.
 
my thoughts aswell, its already had 2 belt changes so I don't want to spend that kind of money for the noise to still be there as I would rather spend that kind of money on something else on the car, mine is a 1.8t petrol.

From what I've read it's to do with the belt that's used. Gates belt makes noise, continental belt doesn't like OEM.
Kit is what £150-200 labour £150 on a bad day. dealer as I see them being called...I call them c#nts what £500-600 if they will take the job on

I was quoted £600 on the nose, but I was told its not guaranteed to cure the noise as it might something else, I don't mind paying "if" it needs to be done but I also don't want to be wasting money as it could be used on something else,
 
Did any of them changes included tensioner and water pump in the past. Are them items on the invoice?

the noise is doing my head in, i'm really fickle when it comes to cars as I want it to run right, I know my clutch needs to be replaced at some point, my turbo or valve stem oil seals might need doing as I do get a little smoke on first start up, so I'm just trying to weigh up my options.

Sounds crazy. Can belt and tensioning kit is about 120 I thought.
Water pump around that price too if I recall.
I can find out today for you what I paid as I've just had all this done.
Shouldn't be more than 400 ish all in
Plus if it keeps having cam belts. What's mucking them up when should give you 40 k plus per belt?

I understand why they say a CB swap may not fix it. Sounds horrible and can hear the engine turning.

ive read that it could also be the clutch pulley on the alternator but I'm sceptical about that, I don't really know what to do as knowing it has had a cambelt done last year do I really want to spend that kind of money trying to fix it and it doesn't cure the problem, I rely on my car for work so either way it needs to get sorted, theres loads of garages out there that will just rip you off too, grrrrr

You need a good mechanic by the sounds of things. Is there anyone you know locally that swears by their mechanic. It's the most important part of the equation tbh.
I guess I'm lucky. I know very little but have a great guy who I've known for 10 years.
I get good advice and sensible prices.
It does sound horrible, having seen the vids.
Has it had the tensioner kit done too or just belt. Usually comes as a kit but who knows.
Am I right in saying the tensioner kit stops the belt from being over tightened?
 
I know 2 mechanics 1 was ok to start off with and then started using the price and when confronted he started being funny, he was good at tracking my last car up and when I took this one he wants to charge me again, the other is always in the pub so I wouldn't really want him touching it, I need to get it done or I will just bite the bullet and get rid, its a really good car but I don't have enough time to get things sorted due to work messing with my days off etc
